Writer Matt Groening uses his show, The Simpsons, as a means of criticizing the phony campaigns of political candidates as well as the lack of safety in nuclear power plants. Mr. Burns’ campaign is intended to be a parody of the majority of politicians. He has a team of employees who change him into what the citizens see on TV. His character is not similar to his media image. Groening uses Burns’ campaign to mock how politicians find ways to manipulate themselves to look better in the eyes of the public, whether that is by smearing their opponent or building themselves up. Another example of Groening’s criticism occurs when it is time for Homer’s family to ask questions. Lisa wrote her own question to ask Mr. Burns, but she is forced to ask a simple question that has a …show more content…
However, this image was not only intended to make the audience laugh, it was also intended to criticize power plants for their lack of safety protocol. The glow of the rat is over exaggerated, but the idea that radioactive chemicals are harmful to animals is not. The factory has so little safety protocol, that animals, like the glowing rat and the three eyed fish, are being exposed to the chemicals. It is a scary notion that some plants do not have enough measures preventing exposure to other creatures and humans. Groening also uses an exaggeration when the gum is found to be sealing the crack in the cooling tower. Of course the factories are not that dangerous, but Groening does have a point. That cooling tower would cost a lot to fix There are tons of plants that find cheaper alternatives than repairing the tower. They might try to seal the crack with concrete, which does not remove the problem, only covers it up. The crack can still spread. Groening not only criticizes the dishonest campaigns that politicians run, but he also criticizes the shortage of safety regulations in nuclear
Contrary to popular belief, nuclear power plants are unable to explode. Power plants use fuel that is thirty to ninety times too diluted to explode.
The given source is a political cartoon addressing the issues in North Korea about their recent threats of nuclear war by use of analogies. The cartoon depicts the totalitarian leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. In the picture Kim Jong Un is depicted with his hair cut extending into a black mushroom cloud and the words “Some bad days are worse than others” written next to him. Through the entirety of his control over north Korea, Kim Jong un has become a laughable figure to the rest of the world. Due to his unrealistic views and his peculiar looks, most specifically his iconic hair cut he is constantly viewed as a joke.
She is astonished by the transformations of her friends. She distinguishes Homer in particular, “He even seemed better looking these days, probably because his head was up and he walked more confidently and carried himself differently. He had such imagination and sense I could hardly believe it” (267). At the start of the novel, Homer was not only immature, but also insecure. He was definitely boisterous and stood out from the others.
Nuclear power plants can also be easily controlled and regulated with the right tools, and many safety precautions are taken to prevent
The rats were one of the main reasons for an unhealthy factory. Rats carried germs and diseases, however workers had to deal with that. They were exposed to being contaminated. “There was no place for men to wash their hands before they ate their dinner, and so they
The Simpsons is an American cartoon sitcom which depicts a working class family that consists of Homer the father, Marge the mother, Bart the oldest son, Lisa the oldest daughter and Maggie the youngest daughter. The show uses satirical humor to portray American society, culture and human conditions. In this particular episode Homer becomes ashamed of his family after a picnic gone wrong and then decides to enroll the family in therapy. The therapist struggles to solve the family’s problems and gives up, and in the end the Simpsons get their money back and are living dysfunctional family unity once again. To begin with, there are many stereotypes that are mentioned in this episode of the Simpsons.
Nuclear energy does not result in the emission of any of greenhouses gases and other poisonous gases for instance, nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide. Nuclear power produces clean and compact energy with no carbon dioxide and using it is the best way to stop the global greenhouse emission causing global warming (Greenberg and Heather 820).
The rats and the bat make me think evil, and andrew looks like a vampire. I believe the main importance of this cartoon is to show andrew in charge. There are not any numbers or dates in this cartoon. The phrase “Altar of reform” stood out to me, and the rats with members running, which made me think andrews ruling

I will focus only in one TV show, which is The Simpsons, one of the most popular TV shows in the United States. The Simpsons is an American animated television sitcom starring the animated Simpson family, which was created by Matt Groening. The family debuted as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show called The Simpsons, which debuted on December 17, 1989.
Homer is cognitive that she had been in front of him all along and he had “grown up in the shadow or her subtle beauty” (284), but as a young boy he was more interested in tennis and childish games like young boys do. Later, he is playing in a tennis match and when Sandra gets up to leave, Homer is distracted by this
Form Analysis of Chapter 8 of The Poisoner’s Handbook by Deborah Blum Deborah Blum is portraying the idea that things that seem safe or even beneficial can actually be very dangerous. She supports this idea with various elements of form throughout chapter eight of The Poisoner’s Handbook. Elements of form used in chapter eight to support her idea include completion, choice of form, outside sources/ flashbacks, and active details. The completion of the chapter is used by Blum to support the idea that seemingly harmless things can be very dangerous.
Nuclear energy may be the solution that eliminates our concern for energy production in the future, but it still remains a huge issue for the environment. Despite its wide use in many developed countries, nuclear energy poses many threats to both the
The Simpsons Hundreds of families have been portrayed over the years through different television programs. Each television family has different roles, statuses, and personas for every member. From cartoons to sitcoms, families have been plastered in front of viewers for decades. My personal favorite show, “The Simpsons”, happens to be the longest running television show in the U.S. For more then twenty-five years “The Simpsons” has been depicted as a dysfunctional family, however each member of the family takes on roles that are more consistent of a traditional family. Aside from the wild and whacky themes that come along with the show “The Simpsons” follows the blueprint of a traditional American family of five.
It is true that there have been major accidents at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima. However those are the only accidents that have occurred in a total of 16,000 cumulative reactor years (“Safety of Nuclear Power Reactors”). The actual amount of accidents that happens are quite low. Moreover, even when those accidents happen, the radiation that you would receive would (normally) be the same or less than what you would receive from natural sources (Lynas). Thus, if those accidents happen, and it is very unlikely that they will, they will not give you any adverse effects when handled
