The Grand Mayan Vidanta is located in Cancún near Playa del Carmen the flight takes six hours if you are leaving from the Los Angeles airport. It was my first airplane ride and my first trip outside of the United States. At first it felt quite terrifying watching everything become smaller and seeing the sea look bigger. Once we arrived we had to take golf carts in order to get to other locations at our hotel. They make every person where a specific colored bracelet that they must keep on during their stay. Debit cards are the fastest way to pay in Mexico because if someone brings cash they have to find someone to convert it.
Chichen Itza was my favorite historical site because you are literally viewing something made in previous centuries. There are many old structures to view which is why the majority of visitors wore shoes that would not damage their feet since we were constantly walking. There are local stands everywhere which reminded me of a huge flea market. My advice to anyone who wishes to go there is to order a coconut. They are prepared at an extremely fast pace and then once they are skinned a straw is placed in the middle of it. Boats and airplanes are the only methods to get there. When we arrived to the island I noticed how there are many mosquitos and why repellent is absolutely necessary. I thought I would be fine if I wore a hat but I ended up getting sunburned all over my back. Even when it is raining those bugs are still flying around frequently.
Playa de Carmen called Carmen’s Beach is located in Cancun and there is an entire strip of hotels in that area. There are many gift shops and also a local Walmart.
