Into The Wild was a tremendous story which Shaun Callarman did not have many positive things to say about Chris McCandless, the main character. He went on this adventure to find out what life is all about in his own eyes. He wanted to see how different living in the wild really was compared to society because he was not satisfied with his living arrangements and household. Shaun’s quote says that he thinks “Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness.
Chris displayed his arrogance all throughout his journey. His arrogance from the start was that he didn’t rely on Human materials. Humankind may not make things perfect every time but they make things because they need them. So Chris was being very arrogant by not using the things created just for his purpose by thinking he could do everything on his own and in the end that was what got him killed. But by the same standard anyone can understand Chris’s thinking.
I interpret his carelessness as he gave up on his own property, but he can still find peace in helping others. I think we could say he was nonconforming and he did what he believed is right. He came to the conclusion that there is no use in maintaining his farm so he would help others; that way he can still be helping society and making himself feel better. He was not like anyone else; most people don’t help others instead of doing their own chores. Rip was individualistic and that was a big characteristic of the Romantics era.
Some may argue that McCandless was courageous, even though that is somewhat true, it's outweighed by his recklessness. Chris McCandless so that he didn't even consider the effects his actions would have anyone else, which perfectly
Many people may feel corrupt or threatened by the government and may want to disappear from the system. A young man managed to get away, however did not accomplish it on good terms. Chris McCandless was the name of the nonconformist. He wanted to go into the wild with no technology and nothing that would connect him with society. Not even his parents because he felt a sense of betrayal, his dad had another family with another woman that nobody knew about.
Krakauer also put some of McCandless’ journals and letters in the book. According to Shaun Callarmans analysis Chris McCandless had no business going to Alaska. Callarman thinks Chris McCandless is just plain crazy. Callarman doesn't admire his courage or noble ideas. Even though Shaun Callarman thinks Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant, also made mistakes because of his arrogance, I disagree with Callarmans analysis
In Penns movie, Into the Wild, He left his parents, and multiple people he met along his journey. People would grow attached to Chris, like the free spirited couple he met on the road and the old man who loved him so much he wanted to adopt him, but Chris was selfish and left. He wanted to go to Alaska so badly that he just wanted to leave his whole life behind. Chris trying to leave society makes his disregard the rules and laws that society put in place. To kayak down a river Chris needed a license but when he applied the waitlist was too long so he disregarded the waitlist and went kayaking down the river.
It is a fact that man’s greatest goal is his own happiness; therefore he can sometimes be insensitive to others. The Angel couldn’t do what everyone expected him to do so he was treated unfairly but no one cared about his feelings. He was truly a blessed
Willy always found his dreams in someone else which is why his happiness never came. At first it was his father then it was his brother Ben, and then it was famous sales man Dave Singleman. He looked for others inside of himself which led to him not being satisfied. Dreams can not be rented or borrowed. Willy never realized this and in turn it caused his mental health to deteriorate even more than it already had.
McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time, I believe he had no business going into Alaska. Even though I don’t think McCandless was so smart, I admire his courage, a lot of people feel like they are missing something, and they do nothing about it and eventually fall into depression. McCandless, on the other hand, went out to look for what he thought he was missing, his plans didn’t go so well, but he at least tried to do something about it. McCandless’ legacy lives today, some people look up to him, many
When he had his family that loved him and cared for him and was always supporting in his needs. He had no experience just off of books about being alone, finding happiness, and outdoors. That proves my point that he messed up and was dumb and not bold he is the cause of his own
It was a life lesson to pay attention to the signs around you. To be safe rather than sorry, McCunn to me was stupid, he threw away shotgun shells just because he thought he could, he didn’t pay attention to his surrounding, he didn’t even know how to signal help. He never helped himself so no one could help him, this was similar to McCandles. Alex had limited supplies, he stopped all contact with the people who knew of him. He completely monopolized himself, I can understand wanting separation.
Christopher McCandless left presuming to leave his old life behind, change his name, make a new life for himself and live off the wild. Chris gave everything he owned away, leaving himself with nothing but a dream to go to Alaska. His remembrance of his past has left him with a deep feeling of being unwanted by his parents past and present. From his parents arguing about little things to going on his first road trip to where he grew up in California and learning about how his dad was cheating with his mom and had a son with his other wife, it really disturbed him giving him very mixed feelings. This ultimately lead to him wanting a new life away from his past.
Some people believe that Chris McCandless was stupid and crazy but those people are wrong. Chris is Courageous and noble for going out into the wilderness like this without money or loved ones. When Chris McCandless decided to go off on his own and live of the land, This took a lot of guts and courage, especially when he did it without a car or supplies. Some rangers found McCandless’ yellow datsun, full of supplies, and it had a note taped to it that said ”This peice of shit has been abandoned. Whoever can get it out of here can have it.”
St. Francis of Assisi was a man who sought peace from the world and tried to bring people together. He gave to the poor and even made a new order in the church, called the Third Order. He believed animals to be his siblings and would always preach to those willing to listen. However, he was not accepted by society when he preached that animals were his brothers and sisters.
