The term of community development refers to community and development. Community is a group of people with the shared identity, collective agency. A community is based around commonality derived from place, shared identity or common interest; the concrete parameters of community have tended to remain vague (Biddle, 1966). Greenwood (2001) noted that the lack of clarification on the nature of the community, its value, and interest poses some significant challenges for Corporate Community Initiatives. Differences in the institutional contexts within which companies operate have also contributed to the contestation over the nature of the community and the applications of the term. According to community development learning authority (CDLA), CD means values of equity, select contribution, priority, empowering in the community people. Further, CD is energetic and empowering in scenery, and leads to sustainability in social improvement. Speciously, organizations’ throughout the world incumbents realize that CD is the significant part of a bank’s operations, because of its positive impact on society, staff members and the general public at large. Stakeholders such as the investors, local communities and beneficiaries people expect organizations to contribute to the societies where they operate (Hassan 2010). To enhance organizational reputation, increase legitimacy and goodwill in the local communities, business organizations in developing countries provide a range of social initiatives such as health care, education, economic welfare, infrastructure development, communication, and environmental protection (Hamann et al., 2008; Idemudia, 2007b). Therefore, more specifically, the responsibility of Islamic Banks from Sariah perspective exceeds the paying of financial, non-financial support to the poor and the needy but extend to the societal welfare, wellbeing and any other activities that will bring about positive development to the society.
