In the era of globalization and advancement of modern technology, engineering plays a very significant role in our lives more than ever before. From the navigation by sun and stars practised by the early mariners, Marco Polo and Columbus, to the sophisticated Global Positioning System used by electronic devices, we are witnessing the tremendous changes in technological advancement that has occurred over the past two centuries.

Well, have you ever wondered living in a world without electricity? In Africa 85% of the population does not have access to electricity. Imagine your child, living in the shadow of diseases because they cannot have a vital vaccine, due to a lack of electricity to power the refrigerators for storage. It is always my desire to help them, and this burning desire serves as a catalyst that fuels my enthusiasm in becoming a mechanical engineer. I hope that in future, I can create a green energy system that harness the energy of the sun, tides, rain, geothermal heat and the wind, supplying energy to the rural parts of the world.
