"Engineering" small word, big concept. In the era of globalization and advancement of modern technology, engineering plays a very significant role in our lives more than ever before. From the navigation by sun and stars practised by the early mariners, Marco Polo and Columbus, to the sophisticated Global Positioning System used by electronic devices, we are witnessing the tremendous changes in technological advancement that has occurred over the past two centuries. Barack Obama once said, “Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it 's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential.” The words of Barack Obama gives me the impetus in the selection of my career as a mechanical engineer, a path full of hurdles, shun by many with faint hearts. My name is Yue Qi Yann. I hail from Petaling Jaya, Selangor in Malaysia. I am neither smart nor intelligent, I am just a normal person pursuing my true self. Throughout my coursework, I have greatly honed my critical thinking skills and discovered hidden …show more content…
Well, have you ever wondered living in a world without electricity? In Africa 85% of the population does not have access to electricity. Imagine your child, living in the shadow of diseases because they cannot have a vital vaccine, due to a lack of electricity to power the refrigerators for storage. It is always my desire to help them, and this burning desire serves as a catalyst that fuels my enthusiasm in becoming a mechanical engineer. I hope that in future, I can create a green energy system that harness the energy of the sun, tides, rain, geothermal heat and the wind, supplying energy to the rural parts of the world. By doing so, I could help to save countless lives in the rural parts of the world while elevating the quality of their lives, making the world a better place for all of us and future
In Andrew Braaksma’s essay “Lessons from the Assembly Line” (Braaksma, 2005), he recalls his time as a free-spirited college student that moonlights as an automotive assembly plant worker during summer vacation. The essay shifts from his grueling experiences on the line to his easygoing life as a student, highlighting the disparity between the two worlds. Ultimately, he comes to a better understanding of the advantages he has in life while simultaneously recognizing that real-world experience is another useful form of education. The main points of Braaksma’s article are showcasing the life struggles of the average blue-collar worker and underscoring the importance of a formal education.
“ The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing based economy to an economy based on knowledge.” The economy change makes it hard for people who were planning on going into manufacturing jobs. Even those who aren't looking into a manufacturing job is still finding it difficult to find a job. With the economy the way it is its making everyone more competitive when it comes to job hunting. “ The global economy is becoming increasingly more competitive, and in order to give yourself a chance for a well-paying job, you must first understand the importance of a college education.”
However, I am not driven by the appeal of fame and recognition, but instead, I want to make my impact on the world by contributing to the advancement of human health and improving the quality of people’s
Throughout his baseball career, Jackie Robinson combated and disarmed antagonists of all kinds with an unflappable demeanor and preternatural inner resolve. My favorite example of his delicate balance between outward poise and inner tenaciousness lies in his encounters with Phillies manager Ben Chapman, who resorted to using malicious racial epithets and instructing his pitchers to purposely throw harmful balls at Jackie Robinson. In a game against Chapman’s team in 1947, Robinson responded by scoring the sole run in the Dodgers’ 1-0 victory. For Robinson, vindication came in the form of tangible results. His resolve and success in the face of contempt, bigotry, and harassment serves as an eternal example for students like myself who seek to
I’m ready to make an impact anywhere the Peace Corp would take
In 2009, by publishing "The Case for Working with Your Hands", Matthew B.Crawford highlighted essential and importance of an undervalued job: handwork. Workers confront many challenges lying ahead that outsiders may not see, but only its undeniable benefits. At the beginning of the article, Crawford outlined the growth of demand of workers, "making the manual trades — plumbing, electrical work, car repair — more attractive as careers" (n.p). Although it is idealized as "the salt of the earth", there is an inconsistence that workers are prevented from joining this field by family members (n.p).
Governor’s School Essay Response Ever since I was young you could always find me toying around with objects trying to figure out how they worked. Taking them apart, studying them, and then reconstructing them back together was a usual past time for me. Looking back I realized that all of the time I spent on learning how something worked was the foundation that flourished into my passion for engineering.
Welding is a great job but not many people know what welding is or how it work. According to Thomas net welding is the process of joining metal together with heat welders can work on many kind of structures such as mobile homes, pipes, steel reinforcement and others. Because welding is a relatively easy manufacturing process and provide a great deal of strength (Thomas). To become a welder you need four skills the first skill you need is problem solving because welder must be exceptional problem solver who pay attention to details. They have to spot flaws in materials and designs troubleshoot broken areas and know to fix parts or equipment. The second skill math and science welders constantly use their knowledge of fundamental science and math
The lack of people not being taught about working hard and the neglect of our education. These points are the driving force of the article. It shows us about learning life 's lessons and appreciating the value of employment when you have it. The author 's primary focus in “Some Lessons from The Assembly Line” is to bring out the situation he went through during his time at work and helping us appreciate education. In his award-winning article, “Some Lessons from The Assembly Line”, Andrew Braaksma tells you how important going to college is, getting a good job, and working hard.
“Why Electric Cars are the Future” Introduction Attention Getter: It was Sunday at park, two college students were discussing about cars. One of them said that imagine about two decades ago, it appeared there was no effective alternative to the gasoline and oil, but now there is a better, cleaner, and more effective substitute to them: electricity. Although electric engines are not so widespread, more and more people consider changing their gasoline-fueled vehicles to electric cars. Then I discovered why electric cars are the future.
I enjoy engineering, in fact when I get older I want to become a biomedical engineer. I want to be able to help people. As well as find solutions to help people in their everyday lives. So that hopefully it would make life easier and less stressful for them. I enjoy all the problem solving that comes with engineering.
Since I was in my childhood I have high curiosity on how and why things work. I have this unsatisfied feeling until I know why and how it 's happening. My dad always told me the same about me. I still remember how I spend the whole day looking for what make the pedestal fan to swing and I opened up its cover to see the motor and gear rotating and for me it 's fascinating. He used to bring me along with him in his nearest four wheel drive park where he taught me many things about four wheel vehicles.
Every human being has their own career aspirations and mine is to be a Electrical engineer, a dream that I held ever since I was in school due to my deep interest in technical fields such as electrical and electronics. Although, electrical engineer is a difficult career to achieve because it have many obstacles and challenges to be met, but I am sure that I am able to make full preparations for the realization of my dreams. The main preparation I need to prepare is knowledge. Knowledge in Electrical engineering is essential in order for me to become a successful engineer as I am required to be able to identify, study and solve the problem that I encountered in implementing the knowledge that I have gained in university.
THE FUNCTION OF ENGINEERS IN PROTECTING THE SOCIETY 1. MEANING OF ENGINEERING We often use the words “science and technology” for engineering. what can be done by engineers with science and technology? Researchers think about it and do some research which resulted in the understanding that engineering is about planning and designing something that helps society by regulating science and technology.
Right from my childhood days, I was always eager to know how things work in surroundings. When I was given toys, I hardly played with them rather tried to dismantle it and try to know the mechanism running it. During school days, I have participated in many science exhibitions which further motivated me towards taking my knowledge and experience onto a higher and advanced level. With this desire and curiosity to understand machines and mechanisms, I chose to complete my graduation in Mechanical Engineering.
