Love is bizarre. It is solid, free, and visually impaired. With it come numerous pleasures. Nonetheless, what frequently happens after adoration is the absolute opposite of affection. When love is lost in a man, a blast of sentiments occupies that individual. One of the darkest, most grounded, most prominent feelings that happen in an individual is the sentiment of revenge. Medea is the daughter of Colchis and granddaughter to Helios, the Sun’s God. She is a woman of incredible intellectual power, ready to manipulate the ones around her, with next to no exertion. According to Robert French and Peter Case article, Betrayal and friendship “Both mythology and depth psychology suggest the relationship between friendship and betrayal find origins and may draw their energy from the same deep layers of the human psyche.” (146)In other words, there is a fundamental connection between friendship and betrayal, and both share the same roots. According to the same source, “betrayal too can be experienced as a destructive attack; it strikes at an individual’s deeply held sense of self, leaving them devastated, enraged and bewildered at being treated so unexpectedly and deceitfully or dishonorably.”(147).Namely, betrayal can be seen as a ruinous assault, leading to devastation, enragement, and confusion. Since friendships are based on trust and openness, they are especially vulnerable to betrayal, enlarging the effect of the apparent treachery. Betrayal comprises a unique type of breakdown in a friendship. There is something radical about the phenomenological break that imprints treachery which is absent in friendships that lapse over a more extended timeframe. Each relationship which contains trust contains in itself the potential for betrayal. “The closer the relationship, the greater the potential to become lulled by the possibility of “perfect” trust – amicitia perfecta – and, as a result, the greater the devastation of betrayal.” (Friendship and Betrayal 151) In other words, …show more content…
Regardless of whether society acknowledges or dazzle itself to this reality, it is an unquestionable truth. Nevertheless, men profoundly disparage the defilement of the human soul. It totally neglects the nearness of the fundamental human nature which blossoms with the control, manipulation, and annihilation of others, for his/her own fulfillment. According to Steve Larocco’s essay Decontextualization, Fantasy, Desubjectification: the Dreamscape of Revenge the aim of revenge is to “assert or reassert dominance, specifically the revenger’s capability of some form of dominance in relation to the target.” (1)Betrayal is perceived as an injury to the self and identity, therefore revenge serves as an interpersonal homeostasis. Along these lines, a demonstration or occasion that disregards a man's control over the symbolic self he relates to, is getting to be desubjectified for two main reasons; “first, it means that the other person has failed to recognize one’s own conception of who one is, and thereby to a greater or lesser extent has violated or disrespected that identity. … Second, such an event expose a given subject’s lack of power to fully control and defend the self-wrought by subjectification.”(5) In other words, one takes revenge in the cases when the others have neglected to perceive how he/she perceives his/herself, and by violating their identity the subject has shown a lack of power and control
Betrayal: the act of betraying someone or something or the fact of being betrayed: violation of a person's trust or confidence, of a moral standard, etc. (Merriam Webster.) Betrayal, at its core, is change, disappointment, and pain. It is about the subversion of expectations, where what is given is far less than what is expected. In literary works, it is a simple device used to drive plots forward and create complex characters.
This is the beginning of the betrayed friendship.
Teddy in “The Fall of a City” by Alden Nowlan and Alyosha in “A Trifle From Life” by Anton Chekhov both deal with betrayal. Imagine being bullied, betrayed or laughed at by your own guardians or even your mother 's lover. Teddy is a boy stuck inside his aunt and uncle’s house playing in the attic and constructing a cardboard palace. His uncle visits the attic and mentions to his wife that Teddy’s playing with paper dolls, and they laugh at him. On the other hand, Alyosha is a boy who is home alone with his mother 's boyfriend, Belyaev.
The betrayal; the cut that always bleeds. It goes beyond the surface; damaging relationships and destroying the trust between loved ones. This is explored in Neal Shusterman's novel Unwind. In the story he explores the deception of those in which were once trusted, and the repercussions their actions have on the characters. We explore in great detail in which one betrayal may cost a life.
Also it can involve a return either to a painful or a pleasant experience.) to either unconsciously or consciously go after people lesser than him. And he would befriend them and pretend they are friends. A friend that he longs for and when they get too close to his liking he would “find some pretext for beating the shit out of [them]”, he would do this because to him, betraying that so called friend is helping him lay out all his feelings and express how he felt and make the person feel the way he

Friendship is based on mutual respect and trust. When a friendship is betrayed it is one of the worst feelings that people can experience. Friendships that last from childhood through old age are some of the best in the world. Friendships that come about in times of adversity can be even more important as the people suffering the adversity have no one else who understands their situation as well and that creates an incredibly strong bond. When people, who have experienced these types of friendships, are betrayed after having been so close for so long or in extreme circumstances, the betrayal seems all the more horrible.
In Euripides’ text The Medea, Medea can easily be painted as the villian. She is a woman who killed her own children in an attempt to spite her husband. But, by examining the text, we can see that she deserves some sympathy. She has little to no control over her own life and has to rely on the will of men. And as a foreigner in Corinth abandoned by her husband, she faces even more challenges than the native women of Corinth did.

In the play Othello, by William Shakespeare we are introduced to Othello who is the protagonist and faces a lot of obstacles, one of them being betrayal. Throughout the whole play we witness betrayal from many of the characters through their irrational behavior and actions. However the biggest betrayal we see is from Iago, who is the antagonist, in other words, the villain of the play. Iago plans on having his revenge and betraying Othello, Desdemona, Cassio, Rodrigo and even his wife, Emilia. Betrayal is wrong and something that can’t be forgiven, at the end betrayal breaks friendships as well as lives and trust which never works out well in the end.
Revenge can be a horrible emotion; it can sometimes lead people to do horrible things. By definition, Revenge means to get retribution for a wrongdoing done to you. In my opinion, revenge is mostly caused by fear and the overwhelming feeling of payback Throughout history, revenge, or vengeance, has been altered by several cultures and religions, and even the American culture. Though it often leads one to perform criminal acts, Howard argues that it is a necessary component in the functioning of society. He points out that revenge is a threat that acts as a disincentive to undeserved violence.
Deception and suspicion are powerful tools that can use trust and mistrust as weapons. Many think that the most powerful weapon is trust and honesty in a relationship but unfortunately suspense and deception over power it in most cases. This can be seen in the play Othello by William Shakespeare, when Othello gets tricked by Iago into thinking his wife is cheating on him and many more cases. In the article How Iago Explains the World, by Lee Siegel it highlights the fact that Iago’s deception and lies work out for him and that he in fact sees the world the right way. Deception overrules honesty in many occasions especially in Shakespeare’s tragedies.
