CHAPTER THREE: METHODOLGY 3.0 Introduction This chapter shall discuss the research methodology of this study. Basically, this chapter included the research design, the population and sample, research instrument that has been used, the pilot study, the data collection procedure, and data analysis employed in this study.
3.1 Research Design Research design is the basic plan or strategy of research (Oppenheim, 1999). In this study, survey research was used as the research design. The survey research is suitable for describing a large population in a certain place. The researcher proposes to use the descriptive survey design to gather data relating to the impact of social media among the youth on behaviour change, …show more content…

The questionnaires only consist of close-ended questions with English language. For this research, the questionnaire consisted of six sections (Section A, B, C, D and E). Table 3.1 showed the designation of the questionnaire.
Section Item
A Demographic
B Social Media and How Respondents Have Used It
C Benefits of Social Media
D Effects of Social Media
E Risks of Social Media

Likert-type format was used because it provides more straightforward method of scale and index construction. Likert scale consisted of items with which people are likely either to agree or disagree. The items were typically presented in graphic format, which being labelled “agree” and “disagree” (Dane, 1990). In this study, respondents were given fives choices as shown below:
Section B, C, D and E:
1 2 3 4 5
Strongly disagree Disagree Neutral Agree Strongly Agree

i) Part A
The demographic factors referred to the respondent’s personal details. The total items consisting four questions are used for this section such as gender, age and course and year of …show more content…

The questions are direct because the researcher would like to know about the benefit that the youth will get by using social media as their routine. iv) Part D
This section was contained more about the effects of the social media. The question consists of the positive and the negative effects of social media in youth daily life.
v) Part E
This part was focused on the risks of social media in youth’s life. Respondents have to indicate their level of agreement based on a scale given. The result obtained can determined whether the social media is risky to use by the youth or vice versa.

3.4 Pilot Study Reliability test will be conducted in questionnaire before it can be distributed to the respondents for the actual study and it is necessary to prior to the exact data collection. The purpose of the pilot test is to examine the reliability of the design of the questionnaire so that the data could be drawn accurately and the unclear and misleading questions can be avoided. A good research strategy requires careful planning and a pilot study will often be in part of this study. Joppe (2000) also defined reliability as how consistent the results are when the experiment is repeated a number of times under same methodological conditions, then the instrument is said to be
