This year, I experienced both a personal and academic obstacle that correlate with one another. In January, I started the year long Medical Assisting program at my school. After entering the program and learning that there is so much more to medicine than just taking care of patients, I began to lose my interest. After completing the required twelve years of college one can take an additional fellowship year to specialize in a certain area of anesthesiology such as cardiac, neurological, or obstetric anesthesia (“About the Profession”; “Anesthesiologist Information”). I would personally enjoy doing neurological anesthesia. Moving on, there are over 157 programs offered per year for anesthesiology (Sacks 103). That’s a great deal of programs. But imagine how many more there will be available if one chooses a related occupation instead such as dentistry, pharmacist, physician assistant, etc (“Anesthesiologists”).
Ten years from now I see myself in college, working to become an allergist. I have my eye set on this goal because I have had to go to this kind of doctor since I was a little girl.I know if I work hard to become an allergist doctor, I would help kids with different kinds of allergies, this would satisfy me more than money would. Going to school now and getting good grades will help me get into a good college. Getting good grades in college will help me get a degree. Getting a degree will help me become an allergist, where I can help people with medical issues.
