ROBOTICS
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
What is Robotics? It is a branch of science or technology that can be used for the construction, design, operation or application of robot. These technologies can take place of humans in dangerous environments or even resemble them in appearance or behavior. Robotics play a crucial role in Industrial, military or even medical applications today.
The use of robotics in the field of medical applications and biology was started around 15 years ago and can accomplish what a normal person cannot due to its accuracy and precision. Robots can operate in a given amount of space which makes them perfect for the best outcome.
They have been routinely used for the treatment of heart, brain, throat, knee

Telemedicine is a process where the treatment takes place without the physical presence of patient itself with the help of robots.
This is how telemedicine works-

Classification in medical robotics
Classification of medical robots is done on the basis of type and degree of the surgery. They are classified into 3 parts-
1) SHARED CONTROL
2) SUPERVISORY –CONTROLLED
3) TELESURGICAL
1) SHARED CONTROL
This type of system helps during the surgery where most of the work is done by the surgeon unlike other robots. In this process, the surgeon has to operate the robot themselves and the robot provides support and stability through active constraint.
Active constraint is a feature that requires the surgeon to examine and map the patient’s body carefully and thereby identifying the areas that needs to be operated and the areas that should be avoided. This type of surgery requires stages of planning, Navigation and registration before the operation can take

Applications of Medical Robotics
1) Surgical training
2) Laboratory Robots
3) Teleconsultation
4) Rehabilitation
5) Remote Surgery
1) SURGICAL TRAINING
o Robots are used as simulators for the surgical training
o The process of surgical training is used to train the students as well as the surgeons.
o Surgical Training helps in avoiding economic and legal problems
o This process is easy to access
2) Laboratory Robots
o Laboratory robots are robots which are used in labs for assistance.
o These types of Robots are used for tasks which are pre programmed
o Laboratory robots have high repetitions
o They can perform more than a single task simultaneously
o One of the main manufacturers of laboratory robots are thermo electron corp and Hamilton co.
3) Teleconsultation
o Channels are used to communicate with patients as well as the
These results are not completely logically due to the fact of the unavailability there is of this technology, not all collegiate and youth programs are going to have access to telemedicine, making it not logical. Aside from this, the information is still reliable and sufficient. The authors organized the information all in one section, but inside of this it is still relatively simple to
Combined with knowledge in human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the implementation of tools and technologies, they assessed progression of the surgical operation, anticipating every need to facilitate a surgeon’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedure while keeping a vigilant count of surgical instruments and sponges which is pivotal in preventing adverse event
Steve Jobs, the co founder and CEO of Apple inc. once said, “Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have faith in people that they’re basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they’ll do wonderful things with them.” In the 1850’s the United States weren’t getting along with the Soviet Union. Because of this United States made the decision to drop atomic bombs. This kind of machinery is introduced in the story,”There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury.
Surgical technology is a profession meant for people who don’t visualize their selves working in front of a computer, spending their whole day with paper works or waiting for the time to pass. This line of work suits well for those individuals who are hungry for action. It is a career made for the brave, the fast and the people who consider themselves as OCDs. Surgical technologists are the “worker bees” of the operating room.
Furthermore, it is important that the medical practitioners prepare the patient(s) on what is to happen so that they know what to expect and also prescribe a post-operative guide which has to be followed until the patient has fully recovered. Which model(s) would you recommend for implementation to this research problem?
People of today are now considering a surgical technologist’s job as one of the most promising careers in the field of health care. As a matter of fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the number of surgical technologists to increase 30% by 2022. This leaves behind all the other occupations with their projected 11% growth. The BLS projection simply indicates that the said profession is continually growing which brings along great news for many aspirants. Another thing that might entice a lot of surgical tech wanna-bes is the good compensation they can enjoy.
Surgical Tech: As a seasoned surgical technician, I provided training to 7 enlisted personnel on all aspects of the department. I work hand on hand with the general surgeon, nurses, and technicians to ensure quality of care is present at all times. I have scrubbed and circulated over 46 demanding surgical cases with zero discrepancies and zero post-operative infections, resulting in 100% customer satisfaction and promoting mission readiness. Supply PO: As the Supply PO for my department, I have been crucial for the sustainment of the hospital’s mission and delivery of quality care. I efficiently and effectively managed an OPTAR of $156,129 in support of day to day operations of the MOR.
You will start out with regular classes learning your Surgical Technology basics, along with math and english. Nearing the end of your college adventure you will start clinic. This is where you go to hospitals and get your first taste of being a Surgical Technologist. After School you will be in the first stages of being a Surgical Technologist. You will experience different things some will be good but some not so much.
Problem Identification Currently, the world faces a shortage of medical professionals as the population continues to increase and with more incidences of chronic illnesses. With the increased the cost of healthcare, telehealth offers an efficient tool for delivery of quality care. The problems that prompted the development of telehealth include: • Large population increase in the U.S. With a 20 percent estimated rise between years 2008 to 2030 (Hein, 2009). • The constraint in number of educated, trained as well as licensed healthcare professionals •rise in chronic diseases incidences globally, such as diabetes and heart failures •the obligation to offer quality care to the elderly, and the home-bound, as well as the physically disabled population
In doing this, I can ease of their fear. It is immensely important to be able to translate the potentially frightening experience of surgery into the vastly beneficial procedure it is. Therefore, I think that pursuing such a career will provide me the opportunity to help patients fight their
Some STs never imagined themselves pursuing the career they have right now. But then, it seems like the universe made its own way and let them be who they are today. For the sexy and superb surgical techs out there, this shirt is your perfect match! Each day, surgical technologists wake up full of determination to be better and to do better. They know how important their role is and how they make a difference in the life of every patient who lies on the OR table.
Space agencies around the world have a long history of collaboration, including with public health agencies. Space has also provided many new human experiences, such as zero gravity training. This training has showed various effects on the human body, helping scientist to better analyze the human body.” devices developed for space missions, such as the robotic arm that was used to assemble the international space station, have been adapted into a smaller robotic device for use in surgery” (Pascal 519). This robotic arm helps to be more precise during surgery, making the rate of casualty lower.
He or she works together with the primary surgeon accountable for handling tissue, providing exposure at the operative field, suturing and haemostasis. In addition the role also entails the individual to have a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, tissue handling and the principles of surgical asepsis. Persons fulfilling in this role should also be aware of the goals of the surgery, have knowledge and the skill to anticipate needs, work as a skilful member of the team and be able to handle any emergency
Many of these tools are coming in the form of robots or machines with robotic parts. The exact prototype of Baymax has not been replicated, but there are multiple types of robots with different abilities that have been integrated into some healthcare settings. Communication is a key component in the progression of healthcare. Technology has taken communication to new levels by introducing aspects of virtual reality to healthcare.
Many jobs have become easier by being replaced by robots. Robot are not just the idea of talking mechanical parts as we see in futuristic movies. There are a variety of different types of robotic machines, great majority of them appear in factories and in science technology work fields. Robots in factories help replace a dangerous parts of a job. However, there have been different perspective with robots replacing jobs.
