Most of the time only the rich could afford to have their clothes tailored. This is because it could take “several fittings a month” (Source 2. 6) just to get a coat made. This was not the case when tailoring first started out however. When tailoring first started out people often had to be sewn into their clothes making getting dressed difficult.
On the list, there were some men without known jobs. A few off the unknown men may have known a little about farming, but most likely not enough. Droughts were also a problem. From “The Lost Colony and Jamestown Droughts,” the charts show that the drought lasted from “1605-1612.” With a drought that long, crops didn’t grow and colonists died from hunger and thirst. Eventually, the colonists did get food when they traded with the Indians.
Ed. Amy Hackney Blackwell and Elizabeth Manor.)(p223-225). Once the farmers with other skills did find work they suffered from very low wages for their huge families that some of them had. Like in the book Life During the Dust Bowl on person states that when she was younger she can remember eating string beans and corn almost all the time, also her father did find a job beyond farming but only paid him $24 a month which is to feed himself, her mother and the eight other children.(Yancey)(pg.27). Another way the farmers suffered from the extreme poverty was that the price for the wheat dropped from $1.60 to less than twenty-five cents a bushel.(Yancey)(pg.22).
In William Shakespeare time London was a growing city and it gave opportunities for the people that lived there to become rich. At that time London 's populations was also growing. Farmers were enticed by high prices persuaded farmers to grow a single “cash” crop. Profits were then used to buy food and manufactured goods. In the 1880s, bankruptcy fell into the nation and caused low prices and a deflated currency. As a result, there was not enough dollars to go around and caused debt. Farmers were forced to by expensive machinery to increased crop production, which were sold at low prices and caused even more debt..In a vicious circle, their farm machinery increased their output of grain, lowered the price, and drove them even deeper into debt.
Beer also gave a way for people who did not have a source of clean water to get the vital hydration they needed. Beer also gave a way for the people who consumed it a way to get the right about of calories and vitamins and minerals needed to live a healthy life. A interesting fact in the book is a theory about the Egyptian pyramids and how the people who built the pyramids were actually farmers who at the time did not have substantial crops due to water flooding their farmland. During the Civil War from 1861 to 1865 food was scarce in the South. In the time of war rations had to be transported long distances, so the Commissary Departments relied on foods that could be preserved easily. Wheat flour was not one of these easily preserved food and therefore was quite scarce in the South. Due to the lack of wheat flour many soldiers baked bread from any available ingredients. One of these ingredients was white cornmeal, which the soldiers used to make shortbread.
Their food came from their crops and gardens. Sometimes droughts in Nebraska made it very difficult to feed their families and still have some left over to sell. 25 Oct. 2016. Although the law is clear in this matter females are still paid less than men under the guise of other reasons, like a series of Jim Crow laws for females to prevent them from being paid as much as males. This act however is hardly ever followed and even those proven to have disobeyed the law usually get away with it. In the U.S there is still people who disbelieve the fact that women are still paid less than men women however have fired back at such people commenting on how it’s technically illegal to pay women less. For example a tumblr post respond to men insisting that women are paid equal to men.
They are actually losing money. So when farmers keep growing corn they are going to continue to lose money. They way corn is used to feed livestock(Cows,Pigs, and Chickens) their digestive system is not made to digest corn. Most of the meat we eat today does not taste as good as it used too because the livestock used to be free roaming, therefore they would eat the grass which is better for the meat. One of the reasons that most colonist died was that they didn’t have enough food and water to survive. They had to dig wells to look for water. They had streams with fish but they only had an abundance of them in the Summer and Spring. They needed more food gatherers and hunters to have more success. Also Jamestown had gigantic drought while they were there and with not enough water, there aren’t going to be very many crops for the colonist to eat.
