When we are forgotten, we cease to exist. Throughout the centuries the legends of King Arthur are told both as fable and non-fiction. Though every story has the same concept, each story differs in some way. Most characters reappear in each legend, but may have a different role in the story. Characters such as Genevere, Merlin, Lancelot, and Arthur's knights show up in every story. In Merlin, Merlin is a powerful wizard that takes Arthur to raise until he can take the throne. On the other hand, in the movie King Arthur shows a more classic side of the story where there is no magic and Arthur was raised by his parents. Between the two movies there are many similarities and differences. The characters such as King Arthur, Merlin, and Lancelot each share some kinship along with some contrast in their story.

Merlin has the same sense of respect for a good man. In Merlin, he is a powerful wizard that raises Arthur a worthy man to be king. In King Arthur, Merlin watches out for Arthur from a distance. Merlin is involved with Arthur a lot in both movies but his roles in either movie could not be more different. In Merlin, he has shown more of a fatherly figure because of his involvement in Arthur’s upbringing. However, in King Arthur the relationship between Merlin and Arthur is more of an alliance. Merlin is leader of a barbaric tribe called the Woads. Arthur and Merlin are originally enemies, but they respected each other as leaders. Merlin pairs his army with Arthur’s army to fight a against the greater enemy, the Saxons. Merlin respects Arthur and his heroic feats, but does not have the fatherly figure like has in the movie Merlin. Arthur respects Merlin like he respects
Described as a wise old being, the Mentor aids the protagonist on their journey, sometimes by teaching them the skills necessary for them to complete their quest or giving a weapon to the protagonist that only they can wield. Merlin helped King Arthur throughout his adventures, from proving King Arthur’s right to rule to rebellious nobles, telling them “ . . . [Arthur’s] blood is more noble than your own! [He] is King Uther Pendragon's son . . . ” , to helping King Arthur gain “. . .
2 - Briefly explain why King Arthur would be considered
In the Middle Ages all of the people had to respect the king and they all knew who he was at the time. The people back in those days never talked back to the king. If they didn’t respect the king or listen to him they would probably die. In the movie most of the people that king Arthur ran into during his quest didn’t know who he was and/or respected him.
One of the differences is that they were fighting a monster in the book but in the movie they were fighting a man, that acted like an animal. In the book the monster was a dragon that they had to fight. In the movie the monster was like a man, but wore animal skin clothes and had paint all over there face. They both were fought in the same way in both the
The stories chronicle Arthur’s life, the adventures of his knights, and the adulterous love between his knight Sir Lancelot and his queen, Guinevere. The legend was popular in Wales before the 11th century, was brought into literature by Geoffrey of Monmouth, and was adapted by other medieval writers, including Chretien de Troyes, Wace, Lawamon, and Sir Thomas Malory, becoming entwined with legends of the Holy Grail. From Victorian times, when interest in the legend revived, it has figured in major works by Alfred Tennyson and T.H. White (The once and Future King). It is uncertain whether Arthur was a historical figure.
Without doubting, the story of King Arthur would always be his victory. "The warrior Arthur, with the soldiers and kings of Britain... was twelve times leader in war, and victor in all battles,” (JONES, 3) By the name of God, there is no possibly for Arthur to lose. Because in all stories, King Arthur and his knights are all great warriors, who are strong and full of willpower. “Arthur and his knights merely sleep, awaiting the call to inspire and rescue us at any time.”
King Arthur also shows power as he achieved something that most people perceived as godly or
Arthur is able to unite his kingdom and establish a just and prosperous society through his leadership. Arthur’s compassion is shown in his treatment of the weaker members
In order to be initiated to be a Merlin he has to stand by cully, but cully, Arthur’s bird, will realize it’s Arthur and start freaking out. When Arthur tells the rest of the Merlins he cannot and they ask why the narrator states, “The poor [Arthur] realised that now he must choose between confessing himself a human, and learning no more of their secrets, or going through with this ordeal to earn his education. He did not want to be a coward.” (White, 82) Arthur learns how to control his words because right before that quote he says he cannot do the initiation because he warned him, he being Merlyn and him being Arthur.
Both Ben and King Arthur had great responsibilities, similar callings on their lives, and a comparable set of values. Arthur was great in battle and was very intelligent when it came to combat which resulted in many successful victories. This was a huge accomplishment to King Arthur and this shows that he is very noble and that he does not back down. Ben is very intelligent and didn’t like to give up on his dreams. Ben applied for The University of Michigan School of Medicine and worked many jobs before he was finally accepted, but this shows that he doesn’t back down from his
“Consensus amongst most historians is that Arthur probably did exist either as an individual or a composite of several” (History, 2015). This legend could be explaining exactly how Britain came to be today (History, 2015). The evidence of a King Arthur actually existing is slim but there is an unmentioned leader, and king of the Britons (History, 2015). In a collection of poems, an Arthur is mentioned but it is impossible to be certain that that Arthur is a part of the original story (Biography, 2016). According to many historians there is not much known about whether if the person who inspired the legend of King Arthur was real, or if he was a figment of Nennius imagination.
In the Medieval British legend King Arthur three character archetypes are prominent; the Hero, the Mentor, and the Villain. These archetypes are universal, found in myths from around the world. One ubiquitous archetype that is present in King Arthur
King Arthur is one of the best kings that has ruled over Britain, throughout all of history. Arthur ruled with honor, loyalty, and chivalry, which made him a great king. Many lessons that he learned on his journeys helped him to become the person that he is. Arthur’s journey becoming king can be seen in the novel The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White, and is very similar to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.
Father: Arthur's Father affected him by keeping him in the house and making him anti-social. The legend was that he was cutting papers for his scrapbook and he stabbed his father in the leg and returned to cutting the paper like nothing happened. He was taken to a courthouse and was locked up for a month, then his father said he would take care of everything, and kept him inside of the house. Afterwards, he didn’t come out of the house during the day because his father kept him inside, and prevented him from communicating with people. Because he didn’t go out during the day and also didn’t talk to anyone, he became mysterious to everyone.
Because Arthur didn’t accept the game fairly quickly, it demonstrates that he doesn’t contain a few qualities it takes to be a good king. Also during the party, Arthur was drunk, which again isn’t something to do while hosting a party. The host shouldn’t be drunk while at their own party because that shows his guests he doesn’t care. Arthur displays a liking for amusement and games when he does not want to eat until he is entertained.
