While I am giving this speech, please have an open mind and be willing to change your opinion. I am going to tell you about why I think mermaids are real. This may take a lot of explaining for you to understand my thoughts. By keeping an open mind about others opinions, it will help you discover more than you expected. First I am going to give you some facts. According to National Ocean Service, to this date we have discovered under five percent of the ocean. The ocean covers over 70 percent of Earth’s surface. With those facts I think that there is still a lot to be discovered in the ocean that we have not found yet. Possibly there are mermaids living in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean that we have not been to. Next I am going …show more content…
They developed webbed hands that were used to help swim to catch fish which was one of their few food sources they had to live off of. Eventually they had to move into the water if they wanted to survive. This stage is what pushed them to become fully dependent on the ocean and its resources. The first evidence scientists had was while listening to a recording of the ocean to study whales when they heard a sound they had never heard before. They kept listening and then heard dolphin noises and this unknown species communicating with them. At that point they initially thought it was another species of dolphins but they thought it was suspicious that they had not seen them yet. At this point they only had acoustic evidence of mermaids. Once they moved into the ocean they were thought to have grown spike type things to defend themselves. They were located around their rib area. It looks almost like a stingray barb which is like a blade of a knife. Going off from this, there was a great white shark killed near where they were recording for their whale study. Once the people dissected the shark they found unusual parts which looked like dolphin and also human. Someone then examined the shark and found what was thought to be a stingray barb, but great white sharks don’t eat stingrays which made them want to investigate
At first the boat went slow and the driver turned on some loud music. All of a sudden we saw some dolphins riding the waves. They were jumping and playing just like children! I was so happy to finally see dolphins. It looked like they were having fun.
The Pan-American Highway Project recently unearthed a bunch of old bones, which were initially found by construction workers. The bones were turned over to scientists, who discovered that the large bones were part of the skeletons of over 40 marine animals. The bones belonged to animals like seals, aquatic sloths, and even an extinct species of sperm whales. These creatures are thought to have been killed off nearly 10,000 years ago.
The probe will send signals back to the boat and data can be collected. Hourglass Dolphins usually travel in groups of 5-10, therefore multiple measurements can be made within one group, and this group is expected to have similar amounts of blubber as they travel together. The water temperature of the region the Hourglass Dolphins are found in will be recored. This will be repeated in different parts of the Antarctic ocean, to see how if the amount of blubber increases in colder waters. Initially, data will be collected closer to the coast where the water temperature is warmer and then I would move further away from the shore.
Originally found in the Atlantic Ocean, the sea lampreys where first discovered in Lake Michigan in 1936. The sea lampreys can be described as jawless parasites with mouths similar to suction disks. They also have very sharp teeth which they us to attach themselves to fish in the water, allowing them to feed on their blood and body fluid for various hours or even weeks. This usually causes visible injures to the bigger fishes and kill smaller fishes. These sea lampreys contribute to the decline in the population of white fish in the great lakes.
Across cultures and civilizations, the sea has always been an important figure both in the benefits it provides in daily life and its presence in storytelling. In consequence, sea monsters have been important figures in myths and stories whether it be in 1000 BCE Babylonian culture, or in 20th century America. The Babylonian Enuma Elish and Disney’s 1989 The Little Mermaid both feature a powerful female antagonist, Tiamat and Ursula, respectively, and these two figures bear many similarities. In both stories, the female antagonist holds strong relationship to the sea, and has supernatural abilities that aid her in her quest to defeat the heroic characters in the story.
As described in the documentary, “The whale just took a different approach to what it was going to do with a very senior, very experienced trainer, Ken Peters, and dragged him to the bottom of the pool and held him in the bottom, let him go, picked him up, took him down again.” This description allows the audience to know about the situation that the trainer went through. Also entails about the dangers that these marine animals as they’re trapped and trained can do to trainers. Another imagery described in the film was the incident involving Keltie. Keltie was performing with the whales when suddenly she tripped.
The bottlenose dolphin has made adaptions for its need for energy, need to reproduce, predation, and abiotic environmental factors. There are three adaptations for abiotic environmental factors. The first one is that the bottlenose dolphin will rapidly emerge from the water to dive back in as a way to save energy so they can swim faster. They also just do this for pure fun. It is common for dolphins to have a limited amount of motion but because the bottlenose dolphin only has two out of seven neck vertebrae fused, it provides them more flexibility at the neck.
In the article, “Hunted for Fun, Left to Die” by Lauren Tarshis, Hardy Jones and the WSPA had to take many steps in order to rescue the two dolphins, Nica and Blue Fields. To start, in the introduction, scientists from WSPA made sure the dolphins were stabilized. The scientists fed them fish filled with nutrients, and gave them gentle words to soothe them. Along with calming them, the WSPA took the dolphins on an extraordinary journey. The journey included a boat and helicopter ride, which the dolphins survived, to the spot in the Caribbean Sea heading to where they had been captured.
In “Then I Must Worship the Spirit in My Own Way”, preached by Red Jacket, and a “Lecture Delivered at Franklin Hall” by Maria Stewart are speeches that persuades the audience through rhetorical questions and connects with the audience in order to establish the speaker’s authority. Through a serious and passionate voice, Red Jacket, Sagoyewatha, defended the Iroquois religion during his speech, “Then I Must Worship the Spirit in My Own Way” that consisted of a mini history lesson and rhetorical questions. The New York Seneca chief, Red Jacket, was the negotiator between the new U.S. government and the Seneca. The speaker portrays a good reputation because he was given a peace medal for his efforts in 1792.
The central idea of Symbolic interactionism is symbols are the key to understanding how we view the world and communicate with one another (page 13). In The Little Mermaid, the human artifacts that Ariel collects are symbols of how she views their world. Scuttle is symbol of how she communicates with the world above her. The Disney movie also helps children establish an explanation about relationships. This guides kids to discover how society defines relationships.
I am going to tell you all about whale sharks’ adaptations. First, whale sharks diet is that they do not attack They do eat shrimp. Second, there habitat is in the warmer areas. Some have been spotted in the cooler warters. Last there habits they are solitary creatures.
There are many main events that happened throughout this film that made some people believe that the whales were to blame for these incidents. The first place where Tilikum
Topic: Great White Sharks Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about great white sharks. Thesis Statement: I am going to tell you about its habitat, its behavior, and some common misconceptions about them. Introduction: “Out there is a Perfect Engine, an Eating Machine that is a miracle of evolution – it swims and eats and makes little baby sharks, that’s all.” This is a quote from a movie you’ve probably seen called Jaws.
It happened in Big Sur, California when it bit a surfer’s leg but quickly let go; It “probably confused” the surfer for a seal.
You take a huge breath in your scuba mask. You dive into the water you, open your eyes. It’s all bright and colorful. You see multiple animals. There is some that are ugly but you see the most beautiful fish.
