Importance Of Artificial Insemination

Artificial Insemination (AI) is the one of the best method to improve the quality and quantity of the cattle . AI is the process of collecting the semen from the male animal , and transfer them into female reproductive tract manually .

As the one of the biggest cattle industry in the Asia , Evergreen Livestock SDN BHD also used Artificial Insemination as the most important technique for reproduction rather than natural mating . One of the reason they use this technique is to increased potential for genetic selection. Through AI , they can determine the type of breed according the criteria they want. Basically, they want the cattles which can produce more milk and meat because the profit of the company depends on the production of meat and milk

At ANSIP , the cattles may be slaughter or cull . It is depends on the weight and diseases of the cattles. Also ,sometimes, in the morning , we will surprised with the death of the calves and cattles. The deaths were caused by bloated , does not get enough nutrient and bitten by a predator .

During the evening , we have did the most important thing in this unit that was artificial insemination . The technique of inseminating a cow is a skill requiring adequate knowledge, experience and patience. Improper AI techniques can negate all other efforts to obtain conception. It took time to learn about AI techniques. The semen sample must be deposited within the tract of the cattle at the best location at the best time to obtain acceptable conception rates. Wrong location and wrong time will cause the cattle feel

The apparatus and materials for semen preparation are ; pistolet , plastic sheet , paper tissue , glove , semen (nitrogen) tank and warm water . For methodology :

1. Took the semen samples from the nitrogen tank and put it in the warm water for 30 seconds (depends on the samples).

2. Ensure the sample become watery then took out the sample and dry it with paper tissue.

3. Pinch the semen samples (tube) until the residue move to the end of the tube .

4. Cut the end of the tube and put it into the pistolet.

5. Put the pistolet into the plastic sheet but ensure did not press the syringe. It will cause the semen drop out.

We does not have chance to apply AI on the cattle because we still cannot find cervix accurately yet . But based on my observation and theoretical study , the method of the AI techniques are ;

1. Put the hand in the rectum .

2. Removed all the feces and air in the rectum to make easier to find cervix

3. Find the cervix and in the same time hold the pistolet but do not press the syringe yet.

4. After we can reach the cervix , we can hold it ,and press the syringe immediately but ensure the location is accurate .

After completing the job , we clean up the AI pen and packed all the stuff at the right
