The signing of the NAFTA agreement led to a high migration of Mexicans into the United States. Although there were restrictions in the migration process, a lot more people found their way into the US as compared to the time when NAFTA had not been ratified. This move seemed to benefit only the United States. There was a kind of exploitation of the poor Mexicans who went to seek employment opportunities in the American soil. In fact, alternative education might be the best option for current high school graduates, as it costs significantly less than a four-year college education and looks more attractive to prospective employers. Overall, it is important to consider whether the debt can be paid off after graduating and if getting a good job is a realistic expectation. That being said, even with the enormous tuition rates, more people than ever are going to college. Since a bachelor’s degree has become a cultural expectation, some people are forced to choose between getting a degree or being looked down upon for the rest of their lives. This forces people who possess a different skillset than the one colleges are looking for to pursue bachelor’s degrees, even though they would be a better fit for some different higher education institution, like a professional school.

However, providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants is favored by the majority of American citizens, and research shows that they help the American economy and lower the national crime rate well below the current statistics. Immigration policies are a vital part of any nation’s economy, and any changes can induce drastic changes. Canada, a nation with radically different immigration policy than the United States of America, enjoys the benefits of multiculturalism. Their immigrant population is the most educated in the world, and despite growing the xenophobia in the west their population is still highly in favor of an influx of immigrants (Tepperman 5). It does not seem that, Canada suffers as a result of their immigration policies.

The population is divided into groups of races, so they keep the traditions of their origin. The predominant races are White, African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Asians. The economic society has a better balance, they still have poverty but the middle class is the prevailing one. The education is totally reachable in this country, apart there’s so much variety of careers that we are in the top of worlds different researches. USA’s Culture has probably the biggest variety in the world because of its immigrants.

According to the Pew Research Center, 47 percent of undocumented Latino immigrants have less than a high school education. It is difficult for them, nowadays, to find a good job without having a complete education, because most of the high quality jobs are hiring people with high education rather than hiring someone with a low education. Moreover, people with a higher education tend to earn more than the ones who are less-educated (Greenstone & Looney, 2012). This shows the importance of having a complete education. In addition, something interesting that the United States Department of Education has towards the undocumented immigrants is that they have not denied education to the undocumented (May, 2014).

Personally, I think trade school is a better start than a University because of its cost effectiveness, you graduate sooner in some schools, and have smaller class 's than a University. My salient identity is being Asian with parents that are immigrants, and are also in the lower middle class category. Being Asian to me falls into the conflict theory. The conflict theory to me is if you are poor, you have less resources to climb into the next wealth class. My parents showed me that you don't need much to help yourself. Sometimes it can be good to be Asian, more is expected out of you when it comes to your parents, and it can really motivate you to do better.

Before, Asians were paid very lowly, or “like blacks”, according to Jeff Guo and Daron Taylor. However, during the 1940s-60s, they received higher pay when they were “paid like whites”. The shift in the attitude towards Asian Americans in the socio-economy can be contributed to the Immigration Act of 1965. This act had allowed skilled and education immigrants to America. According to CNN, most of the Asian immigrants who came under this act “ were high-skilled immigrants such as doctors, nurses, and engineers from countries like India, China, South Korea, and the Philippines.”

In Figure 1.2 it shows the average number of grant recipients who graduate compared to non-recipients. Looking at this figure we see that it is also split among demographic areas. Looking at this we see that although many minorities do succeed better with the Pell Grant, they still fall short compared to the majority white, early 20s with an English speaking background. The issues that cause this are that while the grant does give some money the analysis shows it is not enough. 40% of those with the grant are not fully employed but tend to have large amount of debt already as well as other factors like cost of living and necessities.

As the moderating levels of prejudice and discrimination in Asian American has slightly turns to positive stereotype. Because of their achievements in education and economy, it makes Asian American less difficult to adapt to the society. The educational and economical achievements demonstrate how Asian Americans increasingly are moving toward assimilation. Therefore, the term of model minority is labeled on Asian Americans due to the accomplishment they’ve made. It is like the “American dream” that most people viewed as, having good jobs, making good money, and getting a high education, those are the American dreams that most people would think of in mind.

The inequality between these two groups creates a greater influx of the dominant group attempting to attend a postsecondary school rather than the minority groups. Although colleges and universities claim to promote diversity within their institutions, they unintentionally promote inequality too. The higher cost of college makes the dream of attending college to someone in the minority group just that, a dream. Inequality may also discourage some from even striving to go to college. Louisiana actually has a vast amount of minority groups that attribute to its population, which is why earning a degree may be harder for the average Louisiana resident or make earning that degree slightly more

This leaves American citizens with less jobs, more competition, and less money for spending on goods necessary to maintain a lifestyle that of the middle class. Thus, if one is eligible for loans and credit cards, debt will be inevitable. Debt must begin somewhere in our lives and where else would it begin other than when we are students? Chapter 16 from the book Mexican Migrants by Hellman talks about how he started seeing life differently when he met Francisco. When he met Francisco he noticed he was a very reserved man. He believed that the actions immigrants do reflect on everyone, for example if they see immigrants being criminals now everyone will think everyone is like that. I agree with Francisco because some people might meet the wrong and bad Mexican immigrants and will judge everyone out of one person, then later this becomes hard to make that person believe that not everyone is like the first person he encounter with. The problem with esquineros was that they stood all day hoping to get picked to go work with a contractor on a construction site.
