The notorious serial killer Micheal Swango was born on October 21, 1954, in the town of Tacoma, Washington. Micheal was born to Muriel and John Virgil Swango, his father being a very busy person. Micheal's childhood is deemed unremarkable and boring, he didn't have many friends, and the ones he did have he couldn't keep. John Swango served as an officer in the Vietnam war from 1972-1973. It is said that John was very critical of Micheal, never getting off his back. Due to his father's job and nature, the family moved around a lot. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, born May 21, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US is known to be responsible for the murders of 17 young men and boys between 1978 and 1991. 12 of these victims were killed in his apartment at 924 N 25th St, Milwaukee. Three other victims were murdered at Dahmer's Grandmother's house at 2357 South 57th Street in West Allis. 14 of Dahmer's victims were from various ethnic backgrounds, and 9 were black. Homicides are discovered each day in the United States, but the question remains, “Was this the act of a serial killer?”
Who is Jeffery Dahmer? Jeffery “monster” Dahmer, the famous Milwaukee serial killer and cannibalism, who killed 17 men over the span of a decade ranging from the ages of 14-28. Why did he kill? How did he escape from authority for over 9 years?
Jeffrey Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was known to be an energetic happy little boy until the age of 4 when he had to have surgery to correct a double hernia. People began to notice a change in Dahmer and he became increasingly withdrawn following the birth of his younger brother. His childhood was relatively normal, but as he got older he began to show no interest in hobbies or social interactions. His family frequently moved and his parents divorced when he was in his early teens.

On July 22nd, 1991, a man by the name of Tracy Edwards led police to the apartment of Dahmer, which resulted in his arrest and later conviction. Jeffrey Dahmer was a 31 year old gay man who brutally murdered and dismembered 16 men and boys for his own sadistic pleasure. Once he was arrested, Jeffrey Dahmer was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder as well as psychotic disorder. When Dahmer was a young child he had what was called a “normal childhood”, however, as he got older he became very withdrawn and uncommunicative with society.
Randall Brent Woodfield, more popularly known as the I-5 killer, was born on December 26, 1950. Woodfield was commonly known to have the nickname “Randy” (Ghose). Woodfield was born in Oregon, in a town known to be Salem. In his early years of childhood, Woodfield's life was portrayed to be well functioned. He grew up in a family-oriented home, in the middle class that had no sign of the family, nor Woodfield being dysfunctional (Rosewood, 399).

DeAngelo is suspected of being responsible for at least twelve (12) killings and fifty (50) rapes during this time period. He targeted women between the ages of 13-41 by sneaking into their homes as they slept.
There were more than 119 serial killers in the 70’s (The Decline of The Killer), some more infamous than others, one of these infamous killers is John Wayne Gacy, he was known for sodomizing young males between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one then killing them(Crime Museum). As a child Gacy experienced sexual assault and physical violence, he was bullied and had a heart condition which kept him from playing sports (The Famous People). Gacy struggled with his sexuality, his home life stayed abusive until he moved out and began to work, while making his own money Gacy bought a home, he met a fellow coworker and married her, after his first run in with the cops she divorced, Gacy then had a second divorce and it seemed to give him and feeling
Martin Bryant Martin Bryant was a mass murderer who grew up in Hobart, Tasmania and was the first born child of Maurice and Carleen Bryant. Bryant attended News Town primary school until he was transferred to a special education unit in 1980. Despite only being diagnosed with an intellectual disability after the massacre, Bryant’s parents noticed behavioural abnormalities as early as when Bryant was a toddler. As an adult, Bryant’s behaviour continued to depict that he was disturbed. When his father died from suicide police officers stated that Bryant was not worried and appeared to be excited by the search.

Earle Nelson was one of the less well known serial killers in comparison to Jeffrey Dahmer or Jack the Ripper. Yet his crimes were still horrific. Earle Nelson wasn't always insane though, His killing spree was due to the traumatic brain injury he sustained as a child. After the accident which featured him being hit by a car while biking, he was never the same. His mind was forever altered leading to an unfortunate change of character.

He was called the night stalker by the news media and was one of the most vicious killers in U.S. history. Richard Ramirez’s early life was pretty good, even had his dad as a role model. When thinking about a serial killer, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Possibly wonder what their childhood was like or if they suffered from severe trauma. For Randolph Steven Kraft it was an abnormality that caused him to act irrationally upon his emotional, sexual, and impulsive desires. Although his origins were anything but perfect, a regular person analyzing his past would see nothing that would cause Kraft to end up the way that he did. The story of Kraft is nothing to overlook and could leave an individual in shock with the drastic turn of events in his life.
