The company has invested in the Smartphone business. The Smartphone industry has very many competitors such as Google Android and Apple’s iOS. Google Android phones have become the most preferable due to their features and easy to use. With high competition, the Microsoft Corporation cannot be able to obtain as many profits and may end up losing a lot. Therefore, the choice to expand to Smartphone industry acts as a weakness.
Another weakness is the inability to capture the young generation. Other competitors have updated their software in a way that it captures the majority of the young generation. For example, Google has come up with Chrome OS which offers free productivity software and easier compatibility with the Android application which most students and the young generation highly use. Microsoft is unable to capture these people which hence limit its productivity.

Opportunity to upgrade: Since most people are still using the older versions rather than newer version such as Windows 8, the company has the opportunity to promote the use of the newer software.
