My definition of having a strong character is being kind, thoughtful, respectful to others, and to treat others as you want to be treated. These characteristics also define who I am as a person, I put others in front of myself and always treat others as I would want them to treat me. An example of this Mike Smith’s quote “Speak for the silent and stand for the broken”. Last year’s leadership class took a trip down to Michigan State University to listen to motivational speaker Mike Smith, he told us about what he did to help others and what we could do to help others. The most recent act of helping others is helping new Alpena High School student Lark Collins get to know her way around the school and become one of her very good friends. It
Karen Joy Fowler depicts a family heavily impacted by an experiment to raise a chimpanzee as their own in her 2013 novel We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. Fowler illustrates how even though leading character Rosemary attempts to hide her monkey-like attributes, her animality is ultimately unveiled. Through Rosemary’s need for attention, shown through her physicality and impulsive choices, she evinces her animal-like characteristics. Growing up perpetually being in the arms of her beloved chimpanzee sister produced Rosemary’s desperation for physicality.
Character defines a man. Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “The qualities of a great man are vision, integrity, courage, understanding, the power of articulation, and profundity of character. " Character strength correlates into leadership ability. History provides examples of men with good and bad character. Hitler was a man who was a very effective leader as he gathered followers early on, but his character was weak, making his success short lived.
These show how helping others can have a great impact on people’s lives and survival of our
Atoning for Their Actions Regret, guilt, heartbreak, atonement–what do any of these ideas have in common? Some refugees experience feelings based on obstacles they encounter on their journeys to safety. Alan Gratz exhibits the sacrifice some refugees made and the guilt some may have felt. In this novel several characters atone for earlier actions, while some never get to. First, in Josef's story, Ruthie wants to pay forward her brother's sacrifice.
A Whole New Mind A Whole New Mind author Daniel Pink conveys his writing, which focuses on his grandiose ideas of what sort of minds should be most appreciated and what elements of life deserve the most respect, in an instructive nature that does not hesitate to yield to fascination nor proactivity. He maintains the sensation of a greater meaning within his expressive views of the present and future, but orates these philosophies through a casual tone. “…The left hemisphere will get a bit panicky and look beseechingly across the corpus callosum for assistance” (Pink 138). Through extended metaphors such as this one and informal sentence structures, Pink adds his own flavor into the novel without infringing on the motive of his work.
When asked “What does it mean to be described as “a person of character” it brought two things to my mind, what is a character and as to what kind of character am I. The choices we made throughout our life help mold the proverbial clay that is our character; from where we decided to sit at the lunch table when we were in pre-school to whether or not we picked up some trash that laid on the ground and threw it away, these choices big or small created our character. Breaking down the question a person of character, in essence, is who we really are as people. The things that we say, do, and experience are the things that separate and make each and every single one of us are own unique individual, but what is my character? I reflect back trying to think of everything I have done, and it's hard to come up with my character.
I would consider it both an honor and privilege to be selected for the Roland-Story Honor Society. This is an organization the represents the best in what students have to offer to others as well as themselves. I feel that I would be a worthy candidate and member of this organization as I constantly work at being my best in all areas, but especially in the areas of character, leadership and service. Character is a difficult trait to sometimes define and explain, but I feel that I work hard to demonstrate such characteristics such as dependable, compassionate, honest, and enduring.
Having a good character will get you far in life, and make life so much simpler. I believe I have a great relationship with coaches, classmates, teachers, teammates, friends, and people in the community because of my great
A person’s character can tell you a lot about them. It is your mental and moral qualities, and it can affect how you go about a situation or a task. Somebody with a better character can solve issues with patience and grace, unlike someone with a bad character who may not be so patient and might make a point of resolving to insensitive measures. Character also shows how you treat others around you, if you don’t treat the people around you with respect, or treat them kindly, you definitely will not go very far in life at all. Leadership can have a huge impact on an entire group.

Character is being willing to do what 's right in every situation, even if it 's not the popular choice. I 've always prided myself on having strong morals and good character. I feel like the defining moment of my character came in fifth grade. At lunch I noticed a kid, who was my friend, making fun of a another kid, who was new to the school and struggling to fit in. I confronted my friend in an effort to stop the harassment, and ended up getting in a fight with him.
In the book, Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, Cassie Logan shows a lot of courage. White people in the 1930s discriminated the black people very harshly. Cassie Logan does something about that in this book. She had to show courage when she and Little Man got the dirty book at school, when she, Stacey, and TJ went into the mercantile, and when Mr. Simms threw her off of the sidewalk at Strawberry. Are you willing to take a whipping for your brother or sister.
