The most inspiring story in my life had to be the movie Miracle on Ice. It 's about a 1980 USA hockey team that heads to the Olympic to win the gold. Around this time the United States were going through some tough times with Russia. The hockey team was led by coach Herb Brooks and his assistant coach Craig Patrick. Herb Brooks is a strange guy that knew the game very well. Was also the last cut for the 1960s USA hockey team. Being a coach was all he wanted to do. When he went to pick a team he didn 't just pick the best and most skilled guys but he picked the underdogs, the guys that worked really hard. Everybody thought he was crazy and would know chance beating the best team. The best team was the Soviet Union. Soviet Union would be any team that …show more content…
And for the next hours coach her Brooks would keep saying the same words " again ". He wouldn 't stop, they stayed so long they had to turn off the lights. This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie because it shows how much passion these guys have for each other. Doing what it takes for each one another. Showing that they are willing to do what it takes to win the Olympics. Never giving up never complaining and keep driving themselves to go more and more. This is the point of the movie when the team started to really become a family which was really expressed throughout the movie. Next week it was time to head to the Olympics. The games went very well for team USA because they 're really starting to understand what it truly takes to win. Until it came down to the semifinals USA versus the Soviet union whichever team wins goes on to the finals to face then until it came down to the semifinals USA versus the Soviet union whichever team wins goes on to the finals to face Finland. USA knew they had to come out heart and watch so much film to see what they would do. This was the greatest speech is was all time given. Thing was Herb Brooks wasn 't much of a talker at all but when he said this it really spoke to
1. The main point of this selection is; you just have to fling yourself into what you’re doing, you have to point yourself, forget yourself, aim, and dive. 2. While I was reading I noticed Dillard had an appreciation for her ability to construct the perfect iceball. When he man began to chase them, I felt like even though she may have been scared that they were going to be in trouble, the thrill of it all was more exciting.
The antipathy the players showed for the opposing team on the ice also played a large factor. As a result of their contrasting points of view, the Summit Series was not only a game, but a symbol of each nation’s supremacy. Therefore, the 1972 Summit Series was indeed more than just a
Herb Brooks was an American Ice Hockey player and coach. Although he was a great player, people will always remember him for his coaching style. Herb Brooks was an incredible leader; he saw in his teams what many could not see. In the 1980 Winter Olympics, Herb Brooks put together a team of college kids to take on the best hockey team in the world, The Soviet Union. This dramatic win was dubbed the “Miracle on Ice” and is still remembered as one of the greatest moments in sports history.
Alienation is a feeling of emotional isolation or exclusion from others and can be in the form of physical and mental and it is most often a combination of these forms. Throughout history and to the present day, hostility and prejudice continue to divide the human race because of the indifferences of people. Alienation can be a driving force that pushes human conscience to extremes as humans feel alienated from social institutions that surround them. Friends, family, and society can all be suspects of alienation, and for victims, drastic changes consequently occur. In the literary works of “First Ice”, First Day, and Shinny Game Melted the Ice, the main characters experience such hostility and exclusion from friends, family, and society.
Given that he spoke for the American people, he implies that as a nation, we have had to make some difficult choices, but, yet we make those decisions with courage and determination that keeps us united. This is one of the many points that highlights his speech. Giving positive and strong statements adds strength to his speech which keeps his audience occupied with his words. Hence, it is very important that audience is listening and comprehending what is being
The author gave this inspirational speech to his players before they played the semi-finals in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The speech severed as a catalyst
“Coop, you’re up.” Championship game. This isn't the third period or overtime, shootout. Three people from each team get their chance at a breakaway, one on one against the goalie, and I was chosen. I had the tournament on my stick.
Every hockey player knows of the 1980 miracle on ice where the young American team took down the international powerhouse of the Soviet Union. Going into the game against the Soviets in the semifinals of the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches known to date. This exact scenario was portrayed in the Disney film, Miracle, released in 2004 directed by Gavin O’Conner. The scene starts with the young American squad sits quietly around the dressing room knowing they are the underdog and may be playing the last game of their Olympic career. The entire speech relates back to the theme of seizing opportunity; he starts with saying “Great moments are born with great opportunity, and that’s what we have here tonight.”
The defeat on the Soviet Union team, on February 22, 1980 is now known as the Miracle on Ice. The team faced Finland in the final as they completed the dream by winning and crowing themselves the best team in the world. This hockey team symbolized hope for the entire country, it showed everyone that when it doesn’t look like things are okay if you stick together and work hard you will be victorious. Herbs primary audience is the players in the locker room and the secondary audience is everyone who watched it after the game was over or years later to use as motivation. The speech was relatively short but to the point and he got the players persuaded to believing that they could win the game.
All sports fans may think of their favorite athlete as a hero, a god, a role model, or someone they wish to be. As an athlete there is always the fear of failure or missing the one shot that could have achieved their life goal. As athletes they are always expected to live, breathe, eat, and die for their sport, which in the end causes them distress. In the novel Friday Night Lights, the small town of Odessa, Texas they put that same unneeded pressure on their athletes. To them it is more about winning then actually enjoying the sport, putting an immense pressure on their team to succeed.
militarily, Soviet Union has one of the strongest armaments in the world.
It was important that Bush use rhetorical appeals such as ethos, pathos, and logos in his address to the nation. He also needed to use the hope and history on which America was built on to unite the
To me, his use of pauses really set the mood and was the most effective for making his point serious. He was well spoken but not word heavy. We can learn to follow similar techniques if are ever in position to speak to the nation and declare war with another country; or for giving a speech to on a smaller level like a classroom presentation. Thank you
When it comes to motivational speeches, the pre-game speech given by Al Pacino in the movie Any Given Sunday ranks with the best of them. This speech was given before a big championship game football game to a professional football team that was crumbling apart. Even though the aging coach’s job was on the line, he gave this speech not to save his job, but instead to motivate his team to put differences apart and come together and to inspire them to perform the way they were capable. Al Pacino is an accomplished actor who is notorious for delivering profound speeches in his movies. Pacino has an over half century acting career and have earned many accolades and honors, among them an Academy Award, two Tony Awards, a British Academy Film
The Sport is a devastating road to heartbreak and failure. (I suggest, To experience sports, you have to experience heartbreak and failure - sounds a bit awkward to say “the sport”). It is the definition of it. Don't get me wrong, sports can lead to success, fame, and many other glorious things that others can't imagine. Like the money, land and the "acquaintances"
