Marines have been trained and disciplined to make sure the mission is accomplished in a timely and professional manner with no mistakes or casualties. Leaders ensure every Marine is treated with respect with dignity in order for the morale to be at its peak and Marines would enthusiastically take the initiative to do tasks on their own without waiting for orders. The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sergeant Major Black, once said “Mission first, Marines always,” in 2019 to instill the idea in all leaders to ensure mission accomplishment and Marines are treated well. “Mission first, Marines always” is what embodies the Marine Corps commitment on accomplishing each task while making sure the welfare of the Marines are cared for.

By working tirelessly would only bring you to failure and that would halt mission accomplishment. The Marine Corps does have a system in place and resources for every Marine to ensure that they are cared for such as; making sure each Marine is up to date on their mental and physical health, yearly check up, easy counseling, and endless briefs on what not to do to jeopardize themselves or their career. Although these are great offers to our Marines, it does not seem “genuine” in every Marines eyes and it only shows as a “check in the box” to most. The Marine Corps still struggles as a whole with retention as this problem occurs more than often through certain leaders. Yes, to a certain degree, it is looking out for the Marines welfare. However, if a Marine misses an appointment or does not make sure that they take care of what’s needed, they are punished and it's highly frowned upon. It does not signify the genuine act behind the intent therefore it gives the impression to the Marines that there is not an intent of care behind these types of ideas on how to take care of Marines and welfare. This is evident when the reader is exposed to the stressors endured by the Marines. While the Marines regar killing as a simple part of the job, most looking forward to every firefight, and instance of combat, many of them continuously make remarks on things things they have seen in the field. Additionally almost every marine mentioned in the makes remarks that relate to disturbing things they have seen, many of these remarks being focused on the treatment of civilians in the conflict, such as farmers being gunned down by opposing forces. These Marines also make these remarks addressed towards enemy forces who have surrendered, these men being constantly hunted down and killed by Shahdeen Death Squads. The history and self-identity of the United States Marine Corps are based on operations in foreign environments. Since 1898, the United States military has been intervening in abroad. However, some of the US military interventions in other countries have been criticized, which include the Vietnam War. The horrific acts including rape as well as murder committed by the soldiers of 1st platoon were a direct result of poor military leadership. Bad leadership will corrupt any military unit.

This idea is exemplified by how the U.S wanted to draft more marines for their army. Being in the marines is advertised as the epitome of bravery, and this commercial is doing just the same.

Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.

Importance of Rank Structure All throughout my life I’ve been taught by my mentors that leadership is grown, cultivated, and earned. What organization embodies that the most other than the Marine Corps. In life you are always going to have leaders whether or not you are one or striving to be one. Leadership should be respected even if you dislike the one charge.
The Marine Corps values rank structure and respect to that rank structure even if you are completely in the right to correct or call out a higher rank on something they did wrong it is demanded of you to use the upmost possible tact and respect. From Private to Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps this applies. One saying I learned that comes to mind, in regard to respecting rank structure, “if you respect the man you respect the rank.” I do my best to live by this in the Marine Corps. I believe that myself and for the most part everyone at every rank can have trouble at times remembering our place in the Corps.
Now also for accountability in the Marine Corps is one of the highest things that are always being hit on. So in other words, being accountable may mean for you to be at a certain place at whatever time was given for you to be there. Next, another reason why accountability is important is because if you don’t keep track of your gear and you’re missing something when the time comes and you need that piece of gear that you were missing then you would be in a lot of trouble. All together being accountable is; well to the Marine Corps being called mission ready. That is why accountability in the Marine Corps is very or in greater words beyond important.
“We Take Our Responsibility Seriously “ Responsibility and integrity are very closely linked. Integrity must be present for a person to be able to accept failure in being accountable. Responsibility is not stagnant in higher levels of command. Every soldier whether Officer or enlisted is responsible for sustaining the essential military capabilities he possess. Specifically to the officer over a platoon or unit, who might not be in control, but is directly responsible for these troops.
