Marines have been trained and disciplined to make sure the mission is accomplished in a timely and professional manner with no mistakes or casualties. Leaders ensure every Marine is treated with respect with dignity in order for the morale to be at its peak and Marines would enthusiastically take the initiative to do tasks on their own without waiting for orders. The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sergeant Major Black, once said “Mission first, Marines always,” in 2019 to instill the idea in all leaders to ensure mission accomplishment and Marines are treated well. “Mission first, Marines always” is what embodies the Marine Corps commitment on accomplishing each task while making sure the welfare of the Marines are cared for.

By working tirelessly would only bring you to failure and that would halt mission accomplishment. The Marine Corps does have a system in place and resources for every Marine to ensure that they are cared for such as; making sure each Marine is up to date on their mental and physical health, yearly check up, easy counseling, and endless briefs on what not to do to jeopardize themselves or their career. Although these are great offers to our Marines, it does not seem “genuine” in every Marines eyes and it only shows as a “check in the box” to most. The Marine Corps still struggles as a whole with retention as this problem occurs more than often through certain leaders. Superiors must learn how to evaluate leaders on not what they’ve done personally but on how many Marines they’ve helped become successful as this shows on how good of a leader a Marine …show more content…

Yes, to a certain degree, it is looking out for the Marines welfare. However, if a Marine misses an appointment or does not make sure that they take care of what’s needed, they are punished and it's highly frowned upon. It does not signify the genuine act behind the intent therefore it gives the impression to the Marines that there is not an intent of care behind these types of ideas on how to take care of Marines and welfare. This type of impression is spread throughout the organization which builds this mentality of how the Marine Corps truly cares for their
