Some time ago, when I was watching one of my favorite mystery series, “Garage Sale Mystery,” I noticed a young actor who seemed to truly shine in his role as the love interest of Lori Loughlin’s daughter. At that moment, I was convinced that we hadn’t seen the last of the actor Madison Smith, and seeing him in the role of the despised but misunderstood Roy in Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart,” was an unexpected treat. Recently, I had the supreme privilege to chat with this accomplished actor, and our delightful discussion entailed all things Hallmark and beyond.
What inspired you to become an actor?
I grew up playing sports--hockey and baseball. When I was about 20, I was playing baseball in college, but I kept wondering if there was something

The moment I tweeted about being on the set, within a couple days, I had more tweets on my twitter page than I had ever had before. The Hearties are loyal and excited. At least 10-20 fans have actually put me in a group of “new people” on the show and told everyone to follow me. I know right now that some people absolutely hate Roy, but they are still supportive of me. I’m kind of like one of those characters you love to hate. A good example of that is Bradley Cooper in “Wedding Crashers.” He is so good in his role, but everyone hates his character. That’s kind of how I feel. If people hate Roy, I’m doing my job well.
Do you have any other upcoming works you can tell us about?
There is a new pilot coming in early June called “Miranda’s Rights,” and I am really excited to be a part of it. The writer is Katie Lovejoy, and the story is about a young law firm in LA. The show stars Rebecca Breeds, and it’s going to be so much fun.
Do you eventually see yourself as writing or directing in this

I’m trying to develop a show right now, but even if nothing comes of it, I feel it is important to do it. I love acting on television and being a piece of clay for directors to mold. Right now, I don’t really have any aspirations to become a director, but who can say? I love every aspect of the industry, and I wouldn’t ever say no to directing if the opportunity arises. This is just the greatest industry in the world.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I have a softball team that plays every Sunday in the summer, and Marcus Rosner has been on my team the past few years. I also still have a server job at the Cactus Club Cafe in Vancouver. I don’t work this job because I need the money, but it is that it is a fantastic place to work. I meet lots of wonderful people, and it is so much fun to be out there interacting with the general public.
I would like to say in closing that I am so happy to be a part of this great show “When Calls the Heart.” I hope and pray that Roy will return for season four. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the wonderful
I envy staff members and people who become moderator. I don't have a lot of experience but I know what I must do as a staff. I really wanna try and make a staff series on my channel.
I thought a lot about what I wanted to do and that experience with the Challenger Baseball Program and Daniel stuck out. I finally knew what I was passionate about and what I was meant to do. Knowing that I am finally striving towards something that I am passionate about is what makes me extremely motivated to reach my goals to become an educator. The only thing that can stop me from achieving my goal is myself. That will never
Baseball is a game I have been playing since the age of eight. Since then, I have been a phenomenal hitter. I was a right-handed hitter when I started playing baseball, and I was the best hitter in my age group. I always hit home runs when it was my turn to bat. The coaches who picked the teams argued about who would get the first pick because they all wanted to pick me first.
Ever since I was four years old, I have done nothing but immerse my life in the sport of baseball. When I was born, the story told was that my Dad had the Cincinnati Reds game on in the hospital room, and one of the first things I saw was the T.V. My Mom said when I was laying in her arms, I had my eyes fixed on the game. I was always around the game. One of my first birthday gifts was a little foam bat and ball.
There are many things in my life that interest and excite me very much. Through all of these exciting things, baseball seems to stick out to me the most. It may be basic or very boring to many people, but to me it’s special in many ways. Ever since I was about two years old, I’ve played baseball. With these many years, I’ve faced many challenges, but I’ve had many achievements as well.
Baseball was in my blood. Some of my earliest memories include batting cages with my Dad, sliding into home plate and throwing my first curve ball. By eight years old, I was playing ball year-round on travel teams and loving every minute of it. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that this was my sport, and I would play it in high school and possibly beyond. But, during the summer of 2010, the unthinkable happened.
Actor William Daniels—known for roles such as Mr. Braddock in The Graduate, John Adams in1776, the voice of Knight Rider’s KITT, and the stern, yet caring, Mr. Feeny of Boy Meets World—has written a memoir titled, Still At Play: My 75 Years in Show Business and the Roles that America Embraced. Daniels, who recently turned 88, has been able to create an iconic role for every generation, from his work in the golden age of Hollywood, to influential characters in classic ’90s sitcoms. He expounds on these memories in his forthcoming book, and while he has yet to disclose the publisher or publishing date, he shared an exclusive excerpt with us.
So the next pitch I swing as hard as I can and I hit the ball to left field. I know that it was at least a double, but I did not look up. I sprinted around the bases as fast as I could. I rounded third, and saw my team at home.
Have you ever enjoyed a sport so much you do it every day? I am a baseball player who has played for eleven years of my life. I have been playing baseball for so long, that now it is an everyday sport. Many decent teams have given me opportunities to play for them. As a result, I have had many different coaches.
Sports What sports do you play? If you don’t play sports what do you do on your free time? Here I am going to talk about the sports I play.
I love the freedom acting gives me. Acting allows me to take a character and interpret the character the way I see her. I get to experience emotions I would not normally get to explore. I become someone else and escape my life for hours at a time. Nothing else matters to me at that moment because I am not myself.
but I finally got there when I was twelve years old. All before that point I was playing at a lower level of baseball compared to other kids my age
I recall being an wide eye sophomore who was given a chance to start varsity baseball. The feeling of being on top of the world was pumping adrenaline through my veins. But as game time drew near, I became nervous and doubt started to creep into my mind. What if I make an error or what if I strike out. All I could think
I admire them. I was kind of at my wit 's end with the question, "What will I do when I grow up?" That is the question that haunts a lot of people. It has never really bothered me. I have always known it will be something with animals or writing, for those are the things I feel comfortable with.
For the past couple of year, acting is all I have know to do and it is something that I enjoy to do even though I do not get paid to do it. When acting, I do not have to be myself, but I am the character and when I am on a stage I do not get afraid or nervous because the people will not judge me. Some people will say that going into an acting major is not a smart decision because it's hard to get a job with it, but I'm willing to work hard and do
