The famous speech “I have a dream” from Dr. Luther King Jr. is clearly a persuasive speech. Based on this idea, we can easily recognize some communication patters associated to any speech that aims to influence another person’s attitude, beliefs, values and/or behaviors. Pathos is primordial in a persuasive speech as a method of convincing people with arguments drawn out through an emotional response. First, Dr. King speech needs to demonstrate that there is a problem that affects them and tries to show up that something needs to be done.
