Who is MLK? Martin Luther King Jr. was a nationwide civil rights activist leader and progressed towards equality and the rights for African Americans during the. Martin Luther was the one of the US’s strongest political speakers for the progression of human rights, and the main leader of the Civil Rights Movement. MLK was a leader to the American people preaching of non-violent disobedience protest towards the rights for African American. One of Kings main aspects in his leadership was to establish support from organizations including labor unions, peace organizations, and southern reform organizations and religious groups. Not only was he a strong motivator towards desegregation and integration of blacks, Luther pushed hard to reach equality in social and public settings. Luther fought for social change between the black and white communities, but many people were not ready for those type changes or were very against his movement. MLK life was cut short by being shot in the head by one who disagreed strongly with his principals. Martin Luther’s assassination brought a worldwide outrage and shocked the nation in disbelief. Demonstrations such as on May 2nd 1963, 1000 and more African American school kids in Birmingham, Alabama skipped school in order to protest segregation using nonviolent demonstration tactics. During the demonstration, which would later be called "The Children's Crusade", the students gathered at the Sixth Street Baptist Church and calmly waited for the police to arrive.
