In this world, some people already know what mob mentality is, but some people don’t know what it is, so now I will tell them what is mob mentality. Mob mentality is when people get influence from a group and turn that people to violent. In a large group, people who have mob mentality usually have the same behavior and characteristic as another. Mob mentality makes people feels aggressive which means crazy and chaotic which means confuse in a group. Other people also use herd behavior and herd mentality to tell their similarity behavior.
In chapter Doce of Bless Me Ultima, a mob comes to the Marez family to kill Ultima. The people are a mob when they aggressive in group behavior like a group of men came to kill Ultima. People think to join in group to belong. This sentence make me think about when Tenorio’s friend came to kill Ultima because Tenorio revenge. For example, Narciso test them and they all following him, this example tell us that people want to be the same as other. People are anonymous, so they feel less guilt and do bad thing like Tenorio and his friend, they don't want to name themselves

People anonymous in a large group by the help of internet. Most people don’t know how they get the information online or who has access the information about them. Another example is that people aggressive in a large group. People who is aggressive always leading to rude, racist and may lead to bullying online. When people are anonymous, they want to know about that person and maybe they will find them and kill them. On the other hand, the things that people mostly do in a group is to copy or do something the same as another. What they do is seek people online, follow each other in a group to do bad thing and good things. Sometimes, people don’t have the same action and opinion, which is split mob mentality. This is an example of a group try to harass other people and on the good side, they try to do good
Another major difference between the three stories is the mentioning of a possible leader of the mob. In Mrs. Davis’s memoir, she identified a leader while the other authors did not. Mrs. Davis writes, “They were headed by a tall, daring, Amazonian-looking woman, who had a white feather standing erect from her hat, and who was evidently directing the movement of the plunderers.” By Mrs. Davis writing that the mob had a leader verifies that the rioters were organized.
“The Lottery,” written by Shirley Jackson, shows an example of mob mentality. Mob mentality is when a person feels as though they need to be a part of a large group so they abandon their morals. In the novel, the citizens come together every year for the lottery which requires one person to be stone to death. In return, the town will be ridden of its bad luck and will have a successful harvest (Jackson.) This demonstrates mob mentality because all of the citizens follow the tradition blindly.
Group think According to Janis, who coined the term; groupthink “occurs when a group makes faulty decisions because group pressures lead to a deterioration of mental efficiency, reality testing, and moral judgment” (1972, p. 9) further group think often leads to a decrease in the mental efficacy perception of reality and moral judgement, as personages find themselves in a group system that seeks high cohesion and unanimity which delimits the motivation of the individual to realistically appraise alternate courses of action (Janis, 1972). A common trait of a collective experiencing this phenomenon, is an inclination to take irrational decision making in addition to members of the group being similar in background and further being insulated from external insight. Comparably the singularity of groupthink is present in the film 12 Angry Men, and appears anecdotally, early on the film, present in the expected unanimous vote of ‘guilty,’ that will send the defendant to the electric chair. Invulnerability Literature surrounding the concept of group think is greatly rooted in the writings of Janis.
Toy story is the initially enlivened film by Pixar Directed by John Lasseter. Toy Story takes after a gathering of toys who put on a show to be dead at whatever point people are available. The popular home team broke out from their tight huddle and separated throughout the field. Their anguished faces concentrated on the last quarter; they are only 5 points up. The earnest and intoxicating energy transfers into the equally tense crowd. The fierce competition begins to boil up into the fans. Someone yells a blind comment within the rage and before anyone knows it, fights break out throughout the crowd.
When people are in a group they most commonly choose to think with the group instead of individuals and when they do that it can cause them or the people around them to get consequences. The news article, the teleplay, and the historical research all show mob mentality at its prime, it shows how it could be fine and not do anything that bad but it shows us how it could be horrible. The Salem witch trial is one example of mob mentality and how people react when faced with the blame and are scapegoats. When individuals are blamed for something they didn't do, it causes them to go mad which could lead to death and hatred.
N.p., n.d. Web. 07 Feb. 2016.) Often the men that took part in this were part of gangs or mobs. These mobs have leaders who would tell the members what to do. Some of these leaders became infamous for their actions.
Mob mentality occurs in The Lord of the Flies and in To Kill a Mockingbird. A setting with a dictator leadership and deindividuation in the people, is when mob mentality is more likely to occur. Mob mentality in The Lord of the Flies and in To Kill a Mockingbird occurs when people join a group or a mob, they lose their identity and follow the group's actions instead of their own. Mob mentality occurs in many different situations. Mob mentality occurs when people
Mobs also show the flaws in human nature in society by being an example of people without consequences. In the article “Brawls break out over Black Friday deals” by the New York Post (NYP), people desperate to simply save a few dollars for their gifts ended up “punching and slapping each other silly” (NYP par. 2). These people have this opportunity of doing whatever they want without repercussions, then their inner desires for violence arise that are normally suppressed by consequences. This relates (and thus proves Goldings point) to the boys in Lord of the Flies where no adults to punish them leads to the boys hunting, hurting, and even
The issue of mob mentality happens frequently as people depend too much on one another and easily get influenced by what the majority of the people think and decide. The internal or hidden pressure among the group is another factor that leads to why people follow the majority. As everyone started to change when “All at once the crowd swayed towards the island and were gone-following Jack. Even the tiny kids went and did their best among the leaves and broken branches” (Golding 38). Once Jack had become a stubborn dictator, one by one people started to follow him.
More than 20 people were executed during the Salem Witch Trials between 1692 and 1693. The play The Crucibles written by Arthur Miller a historical fiction piece based on the Salem Witch Trials. “The Twelve Angry Men,” are a small group. Several theories of group performance are shown in the movie “Twelve Angry Men,” but they are subject to interpretation and run a less evident. Social facilitation, group polarization and social loafing are evident within the
It is a natural human instinct to want to be acknowledge by your peers, yet it is also important to be a critical thinker. Irving Janis in 1972 created the term groupthink. He believed groupthink occurs inside a group of similar people that want to keep from being different, resulting in incoherent decision-making. The 1957 film "12 Angry Men," uses groupthink, which influenced the verdict vote in the case of a teenager accused of murdering his father. The purpose of this essay is to examine groupthink and to represent Dr. Irving Janis’ symptoms of groupthink in the film.
The movie "Twelve Angry Men" provides a classic example of groupthink in action. Here are some of the symptoms of groupthink exhibited by the jurors in the film that I noticed. First, I noticed an example of the illusion of invulnerability. This is because some of the jurors in the film expressed confidence that their decision was correct and unlikely to commit mistakes. The second symptom I noted was stereotyping because some of the jurors in the film held biased views based on their prejudices, which led them to stereotype the defendant and believe he was guilty without any real evidence.
The Earth Liberation front have proven themselves to be a radicalized single issue group in the film “If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front” with the frustration by the inability to accomplish the goals of saving the environment. While the intentions are good at heart the way it is the peaceful protests turned violent led to the numerous acts of arson and vandalism have struck fear in many people. Although for the most part these arsons were non violent towards people, they were directly responsible for the incidents of property destruction leading to economic sabotage and eventually could lead to acts of terror on individuals who destruct the environment.
