Mockingjay was written by Suzanne Collins. The setting takes place in multiple locations such as the Panem, District 13, the Capitol, and a post-apocalyptic world. The story occurs over a course of multiple days. The title of this book refers to the theme of the mockingjay bird which was developed in the previous books. The main character is Katniss Everdeen. Katniss becomes identified with the Mockingjay. During this book she discovers her identity as a mockingjay. Many people refer to her as the Mockingjay just as often as they do her real name. “What they want for me is to truly take on the role they designed for me. The Symbol of the revolution. Peeta has a large amount of internal conflict after he is “high jacked” by the Capitol. He would constantly “Arguing with himself like he was two people.” Most of his strugglese is going through happen internally and he continues to try to discern what is real and what is not. However, Katniss continuously debates her role and is constantly questioning if she is being used and manipulated by the Capital. She also struggles with discerning her feeling for Peeta and Gale. The two major themes of Mockingjay are that people are not always who they seem to be, and sometimes we have to do what is right rather than doing what we desire to do. Katniss found herself in the middle of a war while using her influence to help other people. Sometimes our life is not our own and we have a duty to others. After reading this book I had mixed feeling on whether I liked or disliked it. I did not like how Gale died. Yes, he was the one who invented the bomb that killed Prim and many people feel he got his punishment but I do not think he should have died. However, I did like the part when Katniss said “make the games to avenge Prim.” Overall, I did enjoy reading most of this
