The Fire Stick, utilised by Indigenous Australians has been an essential tool in the practice of traditional land management across Australia since their arrival 50,000+ thousand years ago. Fire Stick Farming (as it is now known) shaped the Australian landscape in ways that benefited both land and Aboriginal people. A practice that increases biodiversity of plant species, offered an abundance of food, both for Aboriginal people and wildlife such as the Kangaroo and Emu, and, in turn, increased populations of these species, which were also a desired food source. Additionally, the practice of burning both small and large areas of land ensured the prevention of larger uncontrollable fires which can devastate landscapes, as evidenced by the common
In New York City, the Triangle Shirtwaist Company employed mostly women to make shirts. The working conditions in this factory were much the same as other factories at this time, that is to say, unsafe. The women had only one exit which became crucially important when in 1911 a fire started and there was only that exit, an elevator, which became completely overwhelmed, and an ill-prepared fire escape that became strained to the point that it broke. In the end, 145 people lay dead, all but 23 of whom were women, and half were teenagers. This tragedy put a spotlight of attention on the plight of women workers and led to the adoption of labor laws that not only imposed strict regulations on factory owners, but actually enforced them.
It is important to the environment that there be controlled fires for any number of reasons such as, putting the nutrients back into the soil, and clearing out debris that could be hazardous if a wildfire were to occur. This does not come with out it 's faults, sometimes the fire becomes to big to handle and they become near misses or wildfires. Prescribed fires are great for the ecosystem and the overall well being of forests. They make ecosystems more diverse and replenish the soil for new plant growth.
What is a symbol of a story? A symbol is something that stands for something else. Also it can contain several layers of meanings that stand for, or represent, something else. Symbol is using an object or action that has a deeper meaning for something more than its literal meaning. The story The Glass Castle contains a lot of different types of symbolic meanings. The symbolic item that I think has a deeper meaning from others is fire. Fire can mean so many different meanings but in the book fire symbolizes chaos, fear and destruction.
Symbolism is a notable feature in Catching Fire. Through symbolism , Suzanne Collins manages to paint Katniss as the ultimate embodiment of rebellion through transferring her into a mockingjay . " A mockingjay is a creature the Capitol never intended to exist"(92), as it is a result of the Capitol's usage of the japperjays which were sent to spy on the rebels. However, the japperjays failed in their mission so the Capitol left them to die ,but they managed to survive through mating to female mockingbirds . This proves that the existence of the mockingjays is an act of rebellion in itself , an act of defiance excuted by the Capitol's own invention , long before Katniss has been born. . While in the Capitol , Katniss realizes that her
Through out the history of the United States, a number of incidents and disasters have occurred to influence safety and protection. In the aftermath of these events, valuable lessons are learned and steps are taken to ensure nothing like that happens again. One such incident is the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, one of the most influential and horrifying incidents in United States history. The fact that both the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) and National Safety Council (NSC) trace their history back to this incident speaks to that.
Most young adults in the United States cannot wait to turn 21, so they can drink alcohol, but not this girl. I was from a smaller community and rarely ventured farther than the rusted barb wire fences of my families ranch. However, shortly after my 21st birthday life began to change. Applications got submitted, then came interviews, tests and more interviews. “You’re hired” said a voice on the other end of the phone. That had not told me much only where to show up, when, and how to dress. Basic Academy, just by the name I knew it would be a lot of work. One month later after passing more tests, learning the rules, more on dress, and expectations, they said I am ready to work in the largest prison in the state.

I t has been 145 years since one of today’s biggest cities was burned to the ground. One normal day in the city of Chicago, a fire started in the O’ Leary’s barn on October 8th, 1871. There was dry weather and most of the city was made from wood. With the wood, and the dry, windy weather, the city was very flammable. Once the fire started, it spread to the whole city.
Imagine being an immigrant with no money to provide for yourself or your family. You have to turn to work in a Shirtwaist Factory in order to make a living. While working inside of the Shirtwaist Factory you notice there are many injuries that occur from the machinery, you are being lowly paid for working extended hours, including holidays, and the bosses lock the exit doors to prevent theft by the workers. Many of the immigrant women became upset and decide to go on strike, for better working conditions. As a result the owners of the company ignore the women's strike causing the women to have to go back to working unfair jobs until the fire occurs. Immigrant workers that worked inside of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company endured
In the eighth grade, my friends and I joined a program called History Day, completely on a whim. We had no experience and we barely knew what the program was, but we were very excited to try something new. When we got started on our project, we decided to do a performance on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911. Out of the five of us, not one person had done a historical performance before, and so with no experience we began our research. As we learned everything there was to learn about this event, we became more and more passionate about the topic. When we went to county and ended up moving on to state, we were extremely excited yet a little surprised. We had almost no expectations for how we would do in the competition, and we were
