Introduction The book is written by Monica Pradhan. She was born in Pittsburgh and lives nowadays with her husband in Toronto and Minnesota. Her love for novels grew in elementary school. Until now she has written one book, the Hindi-Bindi club. I chose this book, in behalf of someone recommended this book to me. She told me briefly the story about the book and the different themes in it. The book is spread out in five parts and in every part there are different chapters and each chapter is about one person telling her story. In the beginning this is a little fuzzy, since you are reading about one person and then about the other person. Therefore it is important to keep your concentration on the book to follow it. There are 6 main characters. The mothers: Uma, Saroj and Meenal and the daughters: Rani, Preity and Kiran. In each chapter the story of these characters are told. It takes place in America. This is very important, while the book is about, east meets west and the relationships between the daughters and mothers. It is interesting to read about many characters, as it keeps my interest. If you have a book, with one person telling his daily life story, with …show more content…
There are problems involved, like divorces and marriage struggle and you recognize the difficulties that they struggle with. Although it is also positive, since there is a lot of love between the personages. When you are reading the book about the lives of this young and elderly women you will also read about their family. This is related to relationships between those families, considering they are important in Indian culture. You will read about the family in India and the family in America, which is very different from each other in habits. It is nice to read about the different perspectives in the book and how they see their man, children, family and how they will handle the problems in this
The book has many characters with very different personalities. The book has unexpected twists and turns throughout it. The novel involves kidnappers, a dragon and (of course) the 5 children from Miami that know nothing about what they’re getting into. This book started out as, a fairly normal story.
As her family “moved around like nomads” which they did, she tells the story of her stubborn Father and unique Mother, her loyal brother and wise sister all intertwined into her own story as her family struggles
I was also connected to the text more listening to her and how she tries to match her family experience to the family in the book. I noticed that she was very passionate about Japanese Internment camps, this made me want to strive to be passionate about the book as much as
This book was interesting for me because it allowed me to relate to a character. I love reading novels that not only allow me to feel a connection with a character, but allow me to relate to their personality or
The author detailed her life perfectly and included the ideal amount of emotions to the true story. Also, I did not find any spelling or grammatical errors. The chapters were very short, sometimes only a page, but I did not consider that an issue. This book is a must-read! I rate Leap by Nancy Xia a four out of four.
Lahiri recalls, “When I began to make friends, writing was the vehicle” (Lahiri 3). Writing was an effective tool in her connection with others. In addition, Lahiri always battled with finding her true place. As an American whose first language is Bengali, she never completely fit in with her Bengali family or her American friends. A writing career was the perfect solution to these feelings of displacement because she could write anywhere.
She explains how happy, but conflicted because her parents refuse money from her and live as homeless people. She writes the memoir to work through her feelings and share’s her story. Some topics that I could identify in the text are: poverty, teenage pregnancy and child rights. The issue of poverty is portrayed from the beginning of the book to the end.
Characters from the novel come from different family backgrounds, but they all struggle with issues related to their families. This theme is still relatable today, as many people around the world are struggling with issues in their family such as divorce, abuse and being neglected. The book shows how important it is to have a supportive family, but also how it’s possible to find support and love from
Movies and dramas are some of the artistic innovations of the human beings. They remind us of the traditional beliefs, customs and the way of life. TV dramas, for instance, are one way of teaching people about their past using an entertaining approach where characters take different roles symbolically to pass a message to the audience. Movies however, make scenes vivid and emotional as they bring a clear picture of what happened using moving images. That said, movies make it easy for one to remember, especially on parts that they find interesting or scarring.
It 's a jaw-dropping book that will leave you wanting more as the author Laurie writes in a crisp and clear way describing the young girl Melinda’s horrific story and how it unfolds. The author 's tone gives off the vibe of a young frighted girl which I find really enhances this sad, but exhilarating story. This story taught me to always speak up for myself and to never let anyone take advantage of me. I would recommend this novel because it is extremely detailed, painting vivid pictures in your mind that really help to magnify and
Even the detail in first part of story are full of emotions even though they are not real. By using such great detail in the first part of the story, it thricks the reader in thinking that what she is telling is what really happen to her. In the beginning of the story she talks about what happen to her, “My blood was on the front of this man’s clothes.” Which the reader can imagine this scene really easily. She explains every event with great detailed thought the whole story.
There is one more person in the book that play a major role as well as celie and nettie and alphonso. The Minister Because he is the real reason that nettie gets marry to the guy Alphonso, he arranged for the wedding to happen in the first place. There is a true theme behind this book and it’s the will to fight when the odds are against you ,so you have to keep on fighting to get strong in the life that you have or you may face. The book is basically telling a young Black African American that you can survive in this world she is saying that “If i can do it than you can to”. Then to Introduce the antagonist in the book Harpo is the mean father of the children and he doesn’t approve of nettie getting married to Alfonso.
It tells the story of two half sisters Effia and Esi, who are born into different villages in the 18th century in Ghana. Effia was married off to a British colonizer while Esi was captured and sent to America as a slave. The novel follows the lives of their descendants through the generations, exploring themes of slavery, family, identity and the lingering effects of historical injustices on individuals and society. The book is divided into multiple chapters with each telling a story of a different character and how they’re connected to the story which allows the book to be set
The author, Sarah B. Pomeroy, writes this book in a style that resembles a textbook with many examples. She structures it in a timeline chronologically telling the events and breaking up the subject matter. The book lacked personality, although she had strong opinions that came through when writing the book, the style of writing lacked personality and was hard to read at times. The subject matter I found very interesting, considering it correlated with my class currently. At times, while I read this book, I found myself angry with men because of their brutal and thoughtfulness of women.
Government Arts College for Women, Thanjavur. Abstract: Identity crisis or search of identity has received an impetus in the Post-Colonial literature. Man is known as a social animal which needs some home, love of parents and friends and relatives. But when he is unhoused, he loses the sense of belongingness and thus suffers from a sense of insecurity or identity crisis. In the field of Indian English Literature, feminist or woman centered approach is the major development that deals with the experience and situation of women from the feminist consciousness.
