Have you ever heard of the kissing disease? The kissing diseases actual name is mononucleosis, sometimes shortened to just "mono". It is a highly contagious infection caused by Epstein-Barr. It can be caused by other viruses, but Epstein-Barr is the most common. Mononucleosis is often called the kissing disease because it is spread through the saliva of an infected person. Most people catch the infection by kissing someone who has it. About Epstein-Barr Virus states that, "Epstein-Barr (EBV), also known as the human herpesvirus 4, is a member of the herpes virus family. It is one of the most common human viruses" (About Epstein-Barr Virus, 2016). Human heroes virus type four is the cause of the Epstein-Barr virus. Symptoms sometimes present slowly, and sometimes they are not all at the same time. This means that one person may experience severe symptoms all at once or they may experience symptoms that are spread out through their sickness. The most common symptoms of mononucleosis are extreme fatigue, sore throat, head and body aches, a swollen spleen, and swollen lymph nodes in the back and armpits. It is uncommon, but sometimes a person may even experience a swollen liver that can be accompanied by the swollen spleen, and a rash. The rash develops as small red widespread patches, and it usually lasts for about a week. About Infectious Mononucleosis believes, "Most people get better in two to four weeks; however, some people may feel fatigued for several more weeks.
