Benedetto also known as Andrea Cavalcanti is the son of Monsieur de Villefort and Madame Danglars.This shown on page 476 “Yes, and since you’ve asked me for his name i’ll tell it to you: his name Villefort”. Long ago, Villefort had attempted to bury the newborn baby alive, but Bertuccio, now Monte Cristo's servant had dug the baby up and saved it. Villefort's crime is revealed in a court of law, since Cavalcanti is on trial as an escaped convict. Villefort is thus destroyed. His wife had also poisoned his entire family. Her motive was to gain a fortune for her son. Now she and her son are dead.The Count however, had saved Valentine, since Maximilien Morrel, the son of M. Morrel was in love with her. Due to all of this Villefort goes insane.Danglars had become a rich banker.On page 439 it says “Monte Cristo put the five checks into his pocket with one hand while he held out the receipt to Danglars with the other.Danglars was panic stricken.” The Count destroys Danglars by opening credit with him for six million francs. In Voltaire’s story “Candide,” it is clear to observe that although Candide is free to form his own decisions, he allows himself to be strongly determined by his surroundings as well as everyone who he encounters. This story proposes that Candide is trying to find a balance between submitting completely to the speculations and actions of others while also taking control of his life through blind faith. Throughout the story, Candide encounters frequent hardships along his voyage to prosperity. These obstacles include, but are not limited to becoming a bulwark, being beaten and forced to watch his beloved Pangloss having been hanged, leaving such an amazing place as Eldorado, being lied to and tricked out of diamonds by the abb`e, killing Cunegonde’s two lovers, almost being boiled alive for killing the monkey lovers, and being persuaded to be promiscuous on Cunegonde.
In the Count of Monte Cristo, Dantes is accused of treason. Although he is not guilty for this crime, there is some truth to the accusation. Though Dantes himself has no concept of what is in the letter, the evidence is enough to implicate him of treason. On the night of his wedding, Dantes is removed from his home and questioned by Prosecutor Villefort. When they establish that he is guilty, Dantes pulls the letter out of his jacket mentioning that he never actually did deliver it nor did he read it.
