The prevalence of moral issues in our society has greatly affected the course of our everyday lives. Although our modern society has overcome a lot of dilemmas and issues through scientific and technological advancements, the lack of emphasis on the importance of morality and ethics actually hinders us from advancing for the reason that this deficit is the root cause of a number of moral problems in the society. The lack of moral choices and ethical decision-making led to the pervasiveness of issues within the systematic convention of our society that we, ourselves established in order to ‘solve’ our own dilemmas. The systems that we have incorporated in our day-to-day lives focus only on the technical aspect of our society’s problems instead of looking at the possible shortcomings rooted from the lack of moral decision-making. Not only does this affect the society as a whole, but it also affects all forms of human life. Furthermore, the society’s motivation is selfish in nature due to the fact that it mainly focuses on personal benefit rather than for the benefit of others. Likewise, the modern society upholds tarnished ideologies about what is moral that goes against Aristotle’s proposed ethics. In short, the people of today are living our lives for the wrong reasons. Beah shows his claim by describing his journey through the Sierra Leonean war from an innocent child loving rap music and reggae to his time as a boy soldier killing with the army fighting against the rebels in the war, and finally to his recovery in a rehabilitation centre that allows him to regain a regular family and even talk about his experiences at a UN conference. This rehabilitation ends with the army attacking his city, his uncle is killed by sickness and loss of hope, and because of a fear instilled in him, he is forced to flee.

I have chosen Into Thin Air for my project because the main theme of this novel is Danger and Morality. I feel as there’s danger and morality in my city and around the world, with the natural events occurring. Into Thin Air is a great work of literature because of Krakauer’s use of imagery and symbolism to describe the situation of the mountain. Also, the plot is exciting, and it leaves the reader in shock on each page. The writer tells it as it is.
How do I Make Moral choices, in a World of Moral Ambiguity? A desire for meaning would also include obtaining some kind of “identity,” or individualism. Yet, society or someone will try to force their “ideal” moral system onto everyone else. “Thinking may be “good for nothing” in the world, but in the mind it is good for guidance—not legislation, but guidance” (Bruehl 193).
The code of ethics in which an individual abides by speaks volume. High ethical values are very important in every facet of life. Honesty, loyalty and trust worthiness make up the moral compass in which to live. This moral compass can often be blemished with the ugliness of immorality, deceit and greed. The Tuskegee Syphilis study and The Stanford Prison Experiment are experiments indicative of how research and an individual’s ethical values can become distorted.
Developing from the reasoning of (Russ Shafer-Landau, p.p 13), it is clear that there is a difference between normative ethics and metaethics. Normative ethics are those values that develop from within a personality and are always employed whenever ethics are breached. On the other hand the metaethics is basically the diverse elements that are considered crucial for building positive ethical believes. (Shafer-Landau, p.p 29), also brings forward other moral ethical elements such as the moral error theory, the desire-satisfaction theory, ethical particularism and the doctrine of double effects. All the above elements are crucial for shaping ones ethical perspectives and inclinations leave alone resolving ethical issues within a society.
In James Rachels’s “What is Morality”, Rachels dissects the idea of a minimum conception and examines various moral dilemmas. His idea of minimum conception is not to narrow down morality, but to narrow down the aspects or “cores” of morality. Rachels believes that this can be used develop a universal morality that can apply to every situation. In second part of the article, Rachels presents three examples of real life moral dilemmas and two opposing views for each situation. This examples touch on the issue of euthanasia, but have different purposes and consequences.

In this essay, I will be discussing Aristotle’s conception of the “good life” which he outlined in the Nicomachean Ethics. As we will see, the “good life” for man according to Aristotle is one where we perform the particular activity which is distinctly ours and guides us towards eudaimonia – sometimes translated as ‘happiness’ or ‘well-being’. He shows us how the other conflicting depictions of the ‘good life’ are misguided, and how we should aim for a life of reason. First, however, I will discuss briefly what Aristotle meant by the term ‘good’ and then move on to how he arrived at the conclusion on human happiness. Aristotle believes that the ‘good life’ for a particular organism depends on what that organism is and the conditions it requires
