As a result, he left his position in Egypt and fought to protect the enslave Israelite’s.

God then agrees to assist Moses on his journey, by teaching him everything that he needs to know. Without this assertive personality of God, Moses would never make it out of town. Once Moses, along with God and Aaron at his side, finally make it to Egypt, the Pharoah refuses to let the people go. With the Pharaoh protesting all exemptions of the Israelites, God tells Moses, “...take your rod and stretch over the waters of Egypt...that they may become blood…” This brings forth the first plague sent to the Israelites.

In the novel The Known World, Edward P. Jones reveals the character of Moses as a man who is caring, diligent, and loves the natural world. Moses was a man born into slavery who worked hard in the fields. When his master died, all that was left was a mule, and the memory of reds and oranges laid out in waves across the horizons. The author uses many literary elements to reveal the character of Moses such as point of view, selection of detail, and imagery.
“Israel also came and settled in Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. They also have in common nameless characters; Pharaoh and both of his children are not referred to by their given names. While these are significant comparisons, the differences are many more in this instance. The story of Moses as a young man was portrayed in the episode for the purpose of a backstory on Moses’ past, although his past is never mentioned in the Bible. Therefore the feud between Moses and Pharaoh’s son and the frequent battles between the two were probably portrayed to emphasize the tension Moses might have felt his whole life, even if he did not know of his descent. Another noteworthy difference is how Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses, and how his sister is not revealed in the episode’s version of his journey down the Nile.
