Mosques in America and its roles in spreading knowledge in Islam The number of mosques and mosque participants continue to show significant growth. The US Mosque Survey 2011 counted a total of 2,106 mosques; as compared to the year 2000 when 1,209 mosques were counted—representing a 74% increase from 2000. The total of mosque double after the incident of September, 11. These number of mosques not only represent the Muslim population growth but it also shows that this expansion of the Muslim population into new areas of a city, suburb or town has motivated Muslims to found mosques in these new areas where no mosques exist. In other words, mosque could be found everywhere in America. While this make Muslim movement easier, it also give Muslim wider space to interact with society in providing knowledge about Islam. …show more content…
Their average is 20.3 new converts per year, and one-third of all converts come from African American mosques. All other mosques, whether south Asian or Arab, are close in their rate of conversions. As mosques continue to be established in the suburbs, it might be expected that the conversion of whites will increase. In terms of mosque location, the best rate of conversion for Latinos is among suburban mosques, whether in new or older suburban areas. What is more interesting about the development of Islam in America is the mosque plays an important role in disseminating accurate information to both Muslim and non-Muslim communities. The possibility of success factors that contribute to the spread of Islam is that of leadership in mosques, through a survey conducted by the Pew Research 45% of the imam of the mosque has a degree in Islamic studies that can provide information of the true Islam. Almost half of all Imams have a BA, MA or PhD in Islamic studies from an overseas

How did Islam spread so quickly? Islam a muslim community that forever changed the middle east In this paper I will explain how it spread through The message, trade, and conquest. Trade was one major thing that spread Muhammad 's word. Mecca being a trading hub in the Middle East helped the word spread.
Islam spread quickly because of trade. Mecca, where Islam originated, is in the middle of many trade routes, causing them to interact with and spread their religion to others easily. This is shown by Document A, a map of trade routes in 570, created from various sources. Document A states, “By the middle of the sixth century... Mecca was...prosperous and important.
Introduction: In the text by Eboo Patel “Acts of Faith: The Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation,” Patel focuses on living in a diverse faction full of religious prejudice in a world full of materialistic outlooks. At the same time he intertwines his personal experiences and provides a remarkable account in which he says that growing up in America as a Muslim led him to discover the importance of cultural pluralism, the acceptance of all religions, and his huge account that all Muslims aren’t extremists. He believes in ethnocentrism; religions should be able to coexist without feeling that one religion is superior than the other. In a world where the forces that seek to divide us are strong, Patel thinks the meaning of pluralism is that the differences
As mentioned there is a division of fear or hostility when it comes to any form of ‘House of God’. When it comes to a church many Americans are happy to have one in their neighborhood but unfortunately when it comes to a mosque or temple or even a synagogue these are met with more resistance, “Almost everyone is okay with a Christian Church in their neighborhood; highly religious Americans are less sure about a Buddhist temple” (Putnam and Campbell, p514-515). Does this make them less tolerant? Or is this about fear and instability? This is where I see that Putnam and Campbell have not answered the question of whether America is as liberal or even as tolerant as one would like to believe.
Why did Islam spread Quickly? - Trade The Islamic religion spreaded quickly because of trade. Based on the fact, that Islam had trade over many empires. Corresponding to the map on Document A, “ Adding from the profits of caravans was a brisk pilgrimage trade, for Mecca was the site of Arabia 's holiest shrine.
In Document A, it states,” By the middle of the 6th century… Mecca was … prosperous and important.” Mecca is prosperous and important meaning that people would trade there often and people may travel the routes and spread the religion and since it was important, people went there tremendously so people would trade religions and praise Islam. Plus in Document C, it shows that Islam spread in the vast region through Muhammad followers. Muhammad had many followers which meant that he had a variety of people teaching Islam.
However, if we were to instead reach out to local mediums, like the news or paper, and spread basic information about Islam, it would possibly have the reverse effect and be a faster more effective way in changing the general public’s perception of Muslim Americans to be more
America says that everyone is welcomed and that no matter the race, color, or ethnicity they will not be “judged” or “persecuted”. America has welcomed mostly every race but Islam's because
As an American citizen, the best credible source that Bloomberg used was the document in which founded this country. Bloomberg references to the Constitution by saying, “But with or without landmark designation, there is nothing in the law that would prevent the owners from opening a mosque within the existing building. The simple fact is this building is private property, and the owners have a right to use the building as a house of worship. And the government has no right whatsoever to deny that right, and if it were tried, the courts would almost certainly strike it down as a violation of the U.S. Constitution (Eidenmuller, 2010).” Here, Bloomberg states that regardless of the denouncement of the mosque’s status, with the U.S. Constitution backing the Muslim mosque, the Muslim community can preserve their place of worship.
There is debate about whether Islam was forced into the lives of people or if it was cultural diffusion. Both force and cultural diffusion contributed in the spread of Islam. Cultural diffusion is the spread of cultural beliefs and social activities. The Qur’an is a book written while Muhammad was still alive and what he preached. The Qur’an attracts more people to practice Islam with the verse,”But the believers
Muslims and the people of Islam were able to contribute greatly to the world through its sizeable empire.
Over the past few years, anyone can tell you that religious importance in our country has become less, and less vital. Recent events like the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, and the attacks on Paris, France, have made the freedom of religion harder and harder to come by. Having the free practice of religion has proved difficult. Christianity has suffered from these issues as the general acceptance of the religion has declined substantially in the few decades. A recent poll there was a sense of discrimination for the Islamic religion, as they have been responsible for the attacks, 8/10 Americans believe Christianity should be practiced freely, while only a mere 6/10 Americans think the Muslims should practice freely (Source #3).
In the Why Islam Spread So Quickly reading it states, “...A series of ghazu raids against the non-muslims communities in the neighboring countries. The unity of the ummah would be preserved by an outwardly directed offensive [attack].” This relates to the spread of Islam because Muslims use a strategy of raids against non-muslims that would preserve the unity of the ummah. Lastly conquest and war guided Islam to a large population with the help of the Byzantine and Persian Empire.
Though the Pope’s political influence has been greatly reduced through the recent centuries, his work as the global representative of over a billion followers continues to this day. Islam, however, has no official leader. The largest leaders within Islam are known as Imam’s, who are the religious leaders of a specific Muslim community. Islam has no leader on the scale of the Pope within Christianity. Since there was no leader to aid in the spread of the Islamic faith, Islam depended solely on the natural spread of its faith through trade routes and word of mouth.
