In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton the main character Ponyboy makes many important decisions, some poor while others smart. A prime example of this is when he chose to attend the rumble, even though he was stressed out and not in the right state of mind. The only reason that he even felt compelled to do it was because he felt like it was a way to get back at the socs, and honor his friend and fellow greaser, Johnny. He even said “ RIght then the most important thing in my life was helping us whip the socs” (Hinton 134). As all choices do it had a consequence, but this one was far worse than he could have imagined. All of the emotions, stress, and physical exhaustion caused him to black out, collapse, and become very ill. As he said before
“Nothing can wear you out like caring about people ” This quote by S.E. Hinton well describes Darry’s situation in the outsiders. S.E. HInton, the author of the book, characterized Darry uniquely. He worked and took care of his family all the time. Not only did he have to take care of his brothers, but the gang as well. He was the leader of the gang and held them together.
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, how did three people's actions affect one person? Soda, Johnny, and Dally’s choices affect Ponyboy by staying calm, helping others, and making sure other people are okay. First, to make sure other people are okay, Ponyboy’s brother Soda decides to send Pony a letter whenever he is in Windrixville, because he wants to tell him how bad Soda and Darry feel and that he wants him to come home. “‘Hey Ponyboy’- he fumbled with a piece of paper in his back pocket-
S.E. Hinton is known for astounding everyone with her book The Outsiders which she wrote when she was 15 years old and was still in high school. Michael Malone’s critical essay, tough puppies, gives the reader a good understanding of what happened in Hinton’s life which helped her to become one of the most successful authors for teenagers. In the article, it explains how Hinton’s personal life and ability to relate it to her books helped her to revolutionize modern teenage literature. Malone provides a view into Hinton’s life and what her inspiration might have been behind her best-selling book “The Outsiders”. The article explains that by showing how the teenage life really was in that setting, Hinton founded a new path towards books which
The Book That most people in Highschool have read would be The Outsiders . This book begins the story by telling us of two groups of teenagers who differences lead them in to bad stuff and them having to deal with consquences. However, the author Hinton tells of how these differences in social class do not tend to make natural enemies of the two groups. Though they are different groups who go by the greasers and Socs they actually do share some things in common.
The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton is conflict ridden with character vs character, character vs self, and character vs nature. The Greasers and the Socs hate each other enough to pick fights for fun. After one night fateful night Johnny was forced to kill one of them to protect Ponyboy. This event caused them to go into hiding. They left the building for a little, and when they are back it’s on fire.
He would rather watch a movie or read a book than go to a rumble like the rest of the Greasers. After what Ponyboy goes thru in this book, you shouldn’t be surprised if he has changed later as a person. At the beginning of the book, Ponyboy is scared of the Socs but near the end, he ends up threatening two of them with a broken soda bottle. His buddy Two-bit noticed this and was scared and told Ponyboy he does not want him to end up like Dally. Ponyboy in this novel
What would you do if you were wanted for murder and everyone was trying to prove you are nothing but a violent greaser. One realistic fiction novel that touches on society's view of people is The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. There are two main groups of people in the book: the rich and the poor, or the soc’s and the greasers. Some key characters I will bring up in the essay are Jerry Woods, a school teacher, Randy Anderson, a soc, Ponyboy Curtis, Dallas Winston, and Johnny Cade which the three of them are greasers and our main protagonists. Although some people at school were afraid of Ponyboy, the opinion of greasers did change for the better because of Randy Anderson trying to stop the social divide, Jerry woods praising the Greasers for heroics,
For example, Johnny kills Bob, a Soc, during a rumble in order to save Ponyboy’s life (Hinton 57). Cade risked his future and reputation in order to save Ponyboy’s future. In the moment, Johnny was given a choice, watch his friend die an unfortunate and violent death or wish that upon someone else. Even though this decision was a detrimental one, Johnny chose the option that required more courage. Furthermore, Hinton states, “Stay gold, Ponyboy.
In the story The Outsiders written by S.E Hinton, there are two rival groups/ gangs, the greasers and the Socs. A young boy named Ponyboy explained his journey being a greaser and the sacrifices, consequences, and decisions he had to manage with. This story reminds me of William Shakespeare's story Romeo and Juliet of their similarities which are they gangs, fights, and loyalty and differences that are the wealthiness, behaviors, and between the two books. One of the similarities of the two books is the groups/ gangs, because in Romeo and Juliet there are the Montague and Capulets and in The Outsiders there are the greasers and the Socs. They are both enemies and try to sabotage and fight each other when every they have the chance to.
Throughout the novel we see the Greasers and the Soc in constant conflict, fighting and rumbling for gang dominance. Ponyboy is greatly affected by this and is already questioning the point of violence. Close to the end of the text the Greasers and the Socs plan a rumble to occur one night. Before the fight, Ponyboy meets Randy Anderson (a Soc) at the Tasty Freeze Diner where they have a conversation. Ponyboy realises that Randy is, “not going to show at the rumble” and that he is, “sick of rumbles because they don't do any good.”
In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy experiences the first stage of grief after Johnny dies, which is denial. When in the denial stage, the person denies the reality of the situation and “We block out the words and hide from the facts” (Axelford). This happens to Ponyboy after Johnny dies. Ponyboy is aware of Johnny’s death, “But he wasn’t. That still body in the hospital wasn’t Johnny.
They are heroes of greatness A hero is someone who is kind, generous, helps others, and watches over people who are in need of help. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally are all heroes because they help, save, protect, and care for one another. Pony is a hero because he helped the kids get out of the burning church.
Why is there controversy? S.E. Hinton brings the book “The Outsiders” answering the question on April 24, 1967. Francis Ford Coppola brought The Outsider to the big screen in 1983. Both the movie and novel have controversy throughout. The Outsiders takes place at the high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In The Outsiders the greasers are seen mostly as outsiders in society. The greasers are known to society as people who steal, smoking, and starting fights. The usually are recognized to society as people who wear leather jackets, jeans, and a T-shirt. Some greasers are different than how society portrays them. Johnny seems like he is a murder but he actually has a kind heart.
“People influence people, nothing influences people more than a recommendation from a trusted friend”(Zuckerberg), this is true since people always want an opinion or something to help them make their decisions. In the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, it goes over the life of a teenager and the pain of losing your loved ones and only having your friends to rely on. All decisions made in the story were crucial in every way since it went over real life situations. One character who’s decisions were influenced by the gang members called the Greasers and the environment he lived in was Johnny. Some decisions Johnny made that were influenced by the gang members were killing the Soc, wanting to turn himself in, and saving the children in the burning church.
