Speaking English as a second is a powerful tool nowadays due to it provides with opportunities regarding employment, traveling, knowing other cultures, and studying abroad among others. In my case, becoming a bilingual person has been very significant because I have accomplished several personal and professional goals. When I was a child, I had an accident in which I was about to lose my tongue and consequently I would not be able to talk anymore. I think for any person, especially for a seven years old child, this possibility was frightening, shocking and scaring. I spent four months in medical care and rehabilitation. These months were stressful and tiring due to the medical treatments I had to take. Fortunately, they were very rewarding because doctors could safe my tongue and I was able to talk. In fact, that is one of the things I like the most about being bilingual. Knowing other cultures have allowed to appreciate mine and transmit to others. Moreover, it has contributed to consider life with different eyes. Sadly, there exist several issues I dislike about my country. Politics, economy and education are three areas which are more affected and whose need to be improved in order to have a better country. In relation to education, I consider it as the most powerful tools a country has in order to overcome, to solve economic problems and to provide citizens quality of life. I am conscious that my professional practice impact not only in class but also it impacts in the society and the country. I know my students would have better educational and professional opportunities if they are bilingual. Speaking English is a key which open several doors. As mentioned, there many things in my country that I do not like and I would like they would be better.
