Report #2 The first quote on page 19 is possibly one of the most important quotes in the whole novel.”Knocking him down was the first fight. I wanted to win all the next one’s too. So they’d leave me alone”(Ender 19), Ender says this when confronted by his parts and Colonel Graff about why he beat the Stilson boy so bad he is now in the hospital. This is the quote that helps introduce that Ender represents the Ego side of the brain. It is known that a major theory is that Ender is the Ego, Peter is the Id and Valentine is the superego. ” It isn 't what he did, Mrs Wiggin. It’s why”(Colonel Graf 19) supports it. It further illustrates how he does the wrong thing for the right reason which can be linked to the ego portion of the brain which is more conscious decisions. He knows what he needs to do at the right time even if it’s not exactly correct. The Ego mediates the Id and Superego instincts. This is shown in how he mediates his sister and brother. Valentine is the superego which is the more social/moral part of the brain and is learned from the parent role. This is Valentine’s main downfall unlike Peter who is the Id. This is the primal, non organized side This was Peter’s main downfall yet Ender seems to be a perfect balance of the …show more content…
This quote is very important in showing how the boys are being treated, taught and growing up in battle school. Rather than being nurtured and disciplined for doing presumably bad things against anything, they are disciplined only for things against instructors. They are being taught if they are going to do bad, at least make it smart rather than just do good. It truly is a school made to provide soldiers to fight the buggers. In reality, this probably isn’t a good environment for children to grow up in, a lot of things can go wrong with this setup. Rather than creating good, they can create
Rachel keomanivong P4 Ender’s Game Theme I believe the main theme of Ender’s game is compassion. Ender is a nine and half year old leader at his battle school, he is known as the most celebrated soldier and became a leader or commander. As Ender progresses in leading his own army or group of soldiers, he is sure to do it in a mannered way and effectively. As of chapter 10 and 11, Ender has found ways to teach his callings how important battles are to him and how they can be effective.
Ender is not only good and changing his gravitational angle but he can also view the battle from the enemy perspective which makes him a very good
When Graff and Ender arrive at battle school, Ender has a rough start as he is picked on and not treated fairly. He overcomes everything and is then rewarded with his own army to command. After finishing battle school early, Ender goes back to earth to decide what he wants to do. His sister Valentine convinces him to go back to space and fight the war against
Throughout the movie, Ender was portrayed as a brilliant and gifted boy, despite his young age. In comparison to the book, in which he was shown as very insightful and quick-witted, the film didn’t show the skillful side of him during the battles. As for physical characteristics, the author originally wrote the character as a blonde, fragile child, about six years old during the beginning of the story, but in the movie, the character was taller, seemingly ten years old, and brunette. Since the book focused more on the psychological aspect of Ender, the reader is able to see in depth how much he blamed himself for wounding others, whilst in the film, he seemed to be detached from the pain he caused. In the course of the movie, it is not explicitly
Though Valentine’s actual motive for attempting to make contact with his ticklish knee was to console him, Ender considered it an act of peril, judging Valentine’s intention as harm to him. As an unintended consequence, Valentine’s perception of Ender has significantly modified for the worse. “A very small, fragile boy who needed her protection. Not this cold-eyed, dark-skinned manling who kills wasps with his fingers.” Ender’s colossal character change essentially reveals what Card inevitably understood he would become: a clone of Peter’s daunting characteristics.
In the past 13 years of my life, many mentors has appeared by my side. No matter if the idea the mentor taught me was big or small, those mentors has made a significant impact on my life. Today, I have the pleasure of suggesting a book to a mentor that had played a crucial role in the development of myself as a person. That person was only a normal person that I met at a basketball camp this summer, but what he said to me I would remember for my whole life, and use it as inspiration to keep going on in this world. Now you are probably wondering, what is that person called if he is so important to you?
Ender wins his war not only because his battel experiences he gets in Battle school, but also his personality from his normal life experience which is smart and rational. However, the reason that he is special because he has empathy. Conole believes Ender is perfect and the begining of the novel. He sais, “The brother tested out impossible. For other reasons.
On Earth there was a bully named, Stilson. Ender found himself getting physically abused by him daily and when he finally got his opportunity, he made sure he was never bullied again. In battle school, there was a commander named, Bonzo that threatened to kill him; then, in the same scenario Ender decided to make sure that he would win the war and erase all future battles. In argument with Major Anderson, Graff states, “Ender’s not a killer. He just wins--thoroughly” (226).
The novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card reveals many business ideas and themes that were discussed during my business class. Ender uses the themes of core competency, know your customer, and mission through specific example in the novel. In every example Ender could have better reached his goal goal by either avoiding risk, or taking advantage of opportunities. In chapter 7 “Salamander” on page 84 in the book starting with “even as Ender learned how much he did not know” is an example of core competency.
William Nolan Mrs. Proctor Honors English 2 8 May 2016 Intention-Based Blame: Genocide Is Child’s Play Intentions matter, but is the intent the only factor in determining the morality of an action and the means getting there? Stemming from this question, the biggest issue in Ender’s Game that is still the most controversial, still remains unresolved. Should Ender, the protagonist, be held responsible for the buggers’ deaths? This theme is the basis of Card’s belief of intention-based philosophy.
Sometimes people experience different feelings or different emotions throughout their lifetime. But there is one emotion of them all that people want to avoid which is called fear. Fear can cause people to act dangerously and differently, in which Orson Scott Card clearly expresses this in his science fiction novel Ender’s Game. The novel reveals how fear can influence a society by forcing people to give up their basic rights and exploit others.
This lessens the scope of how much the International Fleet has been lying to Ender, leading to the reveal being less dramatic. The movie also completely erases the Locke and Demosthenes subplot, removes the epilogue of Ender moving to a colony with Valentine, and then replaces it with Ender finding the queen bugger’s egg on the same planet as the Command School and leaving to find a safe home for it. This also gets rid of the parallel between Ender and Peter at the end of the book, where it’s pointed out that in spite of Peter being portrayed as exceedingly cruel, he prevents the war on Earth which saves millions of lives. Ender kills billions of buggers in the Third Invasion, almost wiping out their race completely, despite being described as gentle and not wanting to hurt anyone. The movie’s tendency to cut anything not deemed an important event also makes it seem that Ender is unaffected by most of the events that occur.
Scott Macarthy Mr. Werley English III 22 September 2014 The Destruction of Ender A utopia is supposed to be a perfect world, yet there are rarely any true utopias. Ender’s Game begins with a utopic society, where the government pits Earth against the nasty and evil buggers. Throughout Ender 's Game, written by Orson Scott Card, the reader follows the main protagonist, Ender, from his journey as a young boy on Earth to the hopes of being the next great commander in the fight against the buggers.
His compassion is proven many times, and one of them is the fact that he hates that he feels just like Peter. If Ender had no compassion, why would he have regretted acting like Peter? Ender is also very sympathetic to Bean (even though Ender tries not to show it) and Ender would see himself in Bean, how small and young Bean is but still so determined. Ender initially realizes that he is isolating Bean because Ender himself was once isolated and he wants to force Bean to flourish like Ender did. Ender also has so much empathy that he would think like the buggers, and could understand and anticipate them.
This causes problems only to himself when he refuses to acknowledge Ender’s potential in battles making him look foolish to other characters. Violence and revenge is his way to solve his problems, but it ultimately fails and creates more. He doesn’t enforce discipline but destroys
