According to the Scenic Area Ordinance, a landscape can be categorised as a National Top Scenic Spot if the landscape has cultural or scientific value, where the natural landscape and cultural landscape are relatively concentrated, with a beautiful environment for people to explore. Lieutenant Thomas Macdonough’s victory at the Battle of Lake Champlain on 11 September 1814 was the decisive battle that secured an American victory in the War of 1812 by causing the British to withdraw from the north east and Chesapeake Bay. Without Macdonough’s genius strategy, the British would have secured Lake Champlain, taken Fort McHenry at Plattsburgh, and kept control in the Chesapeake Bay, which in turn would have resulted in a British victory of the war. After two years into the war, the British maintained the upper hand. Despite major naval victories by Chauncey and Perry at Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, the British still held a blockade across the east coast of the United States.
We cannot experience this beauty and understand its value from far away. Leaving out/keeping out "tourists" from natural (wide views of nature scenes/wide areas of beautiful land) as Church argues, leaves out/keeps out a majority of the public from experiencing and fighting for (related to surrounding conditions or the health of the Earth) rights. If only a select few have experienced natural sights such as the Grand Canyon, only a few people will have an emotional connection and true will to fight to protect it. In order to appreciate (the health of the Earth/the surrounding conditions) we wish to protect, we need to understand its value
When Japan invaded China in 1937, they started a chain of events leading to their defeat at the end of the second world war. Between circa 1925 and circa 1950 the Chinese communist party took hold of China sparking nationalism and anti-japanese stances, bringing the people new opportunities, and advocating social and gender equality. The Chinese people felt a loss of pride when Japan invaded them, but with the rising of the communist party they felt a new sense of nationalism and pride in their country. When looking at the conversation between a teenager and his grandfather, we get a wider picture at what life was like before the communist party rose to power.
“The Devils Thumb and Everest” Climbing mountains can be extremely dangerous. Jon Krakaeur and Erik Weihenmayer both wrote stories to tell us all about it. Jon Kraukaeur wrote the story “The Devils Thumb” about climbing a mountain in Alaska all alone. Kraukaeur has climbed mountains all his life and has written many books about it. Erik Weihenmayer wrote the story “Everest” about reaching the summit of Mount Everest as a blind person.
Dear Mrs. Amy Chua, As an experienced (seasoned) mother of four, having recently read an excerpt from your book “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother” I unconditionally disagree with your perspective on this idea. Your ideal parenting method is unacceptable as it damages self-esteem, confidence, and creativity. It truly scares me to think that the content of your article may persuade amateur parents to mimic you and your “tactics”, which would be an absolutely tragic plummet in parenting standards, sending us back to the 1900s. I understand that you believe that the best way to raise a child is through an intense regimen consisting of limited leisure and long hours of study. However, you must recognize that there is much more to childhood than this.
The Battle of Blair Mountain was “the largest armed rebellion in America since the Civil War” (Grayson, “The Second Civil War...”). Miners in West Virginia rose up against the mine bosses, who were cutting wages and attacking the miners’ unions. Capitalism worked against the interests of the miners. The conditions of the miners were caused by the need of the capitalist mine owners to make profits. The mine owners hired detectives to attack the workers, who were trying to improve their conditions and fight for their rights.
Throughout history there have been many Queens. All over the world, many monarchies had an influence on their people. Such was the same during the 19th century in Hawaii. Before the United States took over, was Queen Liliuokalani. Queen Liliuokalani may be called a hero if we define the term as a person who, endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind, determined to achieve a near impossible goal to restore monarchy powers and succeeds in the face of serious opposition against the United States.
The quote "Little as he knew though, he wanted Ralph and Berry to think he knew a lot. "-Page 512, from the story The Mountain Legend by Jordan Wheeler. I think it would be a call to attention because it's foreshadowing that Jason will climb the intimidating mountain. After all, he wants to impress Ralph and Barry. Another call to attention is that it is suspense because it makes the reader want to read more and think about whether will Jason climb the mountain, whether he'll survive, whether he'll listen to Ralph and Barry, and whether he'll be influenced.
It was 1965 and the first U.S. troops were landing in South Vietnam, there were 3,500 U.S. Marines added to the already 25,000 advisers in the country. This war would define how we view life for decades and generations. Most people thought it was a mistaken war with no purpose other than to stop the flow of communism in Asia and the fear of others would follow, and add to the strength of the Soviet Union during the height of the cold war. Some people turned the war into a racist battle ground to justify the uprising and protest against the war. The troops were poorly armed and on average fought 240 days a year when compared to WW2 with only 40 days a year for infantrymen.

Jack Ma once said, “The world needs new leadership, but the new leadership is about working together.” This could not be more true at Boston University through its Kilachand Honors College. I believe it is because their approach of interdisciplinary problem-solving, is about expanding students’ world-views. In this program you are learning with different individuals who have different interest and fields of study. According to Pew Research Center, “Political polarization is the defining feature of early 21st century American politics...”.
Chapter 4, “ Toward ‘The Stony Mountains’”, focused on Andrew Jackson’s unreasoned hatred and removal of Native American. Many times during the chapter, Takaki shows Jackson’s numerous times in removal of the Indigenous. He came to a conclusion of moving the Natives towards the West. He promised the Native American tribes the district of Mississippi, but a lot of tribes were against this treaty. Prior to Jackson’s presidency, Jefferson sent a letter to Jackson to advise the Native Americans to “sell their ‘useless’ forests”.
