The loquacious Roy E. Disney once said, “When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier.” Throughout the stories that we read in this module, native american values that we use to this day were displayed. Consequently, there were three values within these stories that truly affect our lives. Firstly, there is respect, which was displayed in the story “The Coyote and the Buffalo” when Coyote disrespects Buffalo Bull and it brings him an enormous amount of anger. Furthermore, there was perseverance, which was exhibited in the myth “The World on a Turtle’s Back” when the pregnant woman falls through the cracks of the Sky World and still makes a life for her and her daughter.
Then, Duncan talks about the book he is most influenced and considers as his best work. The book “Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote: A Migrant’s Tale,” mentions about an emotional story of the effects of undocumented immigration on families and children. This book highlights the complex issue of immigration today in United States and how families are separated across the border. The author uses every single word in the text and has a strong emotional meaning to it.

The Animal Within Us Animal instinct is classified as a natural or inherent aptitude, impulse, or capacity that is present in humans. All Quiet on the Western Front, is a novel based off of the events in World War I. The main character Paul Baumer and his fellow classmates are enlisted into the German army, and fight against the French troops for a numerous amount days. Paul Baumer and the other troops are fighting against the French for multiple days.
The Evolution Of The Platypus Platypus have wonderful features like the duck bill the duck bill has enable the platypus to hear and breathe while diving for it’s prey for platypus being good at swimming and are good diggers. The platypus have adapted to have strong,shovel-like claws that enable them to move and disturb thick,heavy soil and mud they dig in order burrow it’s like making a home for the male and important female to use it for nesting in the burrow. One of the most distinguishing feature of the platypus is its duck bill.
The Native American origin myth "The Earth on Turtle's Back", retold by Michael Cuduto and Joseph Bruchac, displays how connected the Onondaga individuals are with the spiritual world and their inner self. They rely deeply on their instincts and thoughts related to them to lead them to make important decisions within their lives about the future. their culture has many compelling attributes as well as a strict cultural system and ritualistic bahaviors. The Onondaga individuals adhere to a lifestyle that creates happiness on a level that far surpasses what we, in the modern age, see as acceptable.
In Animal Dreams there are many animal symbols: coyote being an important Native American symbol, has been mentioned multiple times from pages 20-142. Coyotes are sometimes known as tricksters; however, in this book, Animal Dreams, it reads more of “beware of the dark side of things and play on your resources,” or we should look at something that we have been trying to avoid. We have learned that Codi had a miscarriage when she was younger, with a guy named Loyd. In chapter eight, “Pictures,” an incident is brought up where Hallie, Codis sister, and Codi are saved by Uda Dells husband, Eddie Dell, while trying to save coyotes in their burrow (was also mention earlier on page 20) (Kingsolver 77).

Well, according to the National Storytelling Network storytelling as an ancient art form and a valuable form of human expression; that is why many would consider Beast of the Southern Wild a perfect example. Beast of the Southern Wild movie is about passion, pain, survival and adventure which all can be transpired throughout the movie; free spirited folks that refuse to leave the folktales they believe in for the realism of the world. The Heartsong of Charging Elk, by James Welch details the life and trials of a Native American Indian who naively left his home on the adventure of a lifetime, only to have his life’s path inexorably altered on French soil. I can’t help but feel as though I were somehow watching a modern version of Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels. Welch brings us into Charging Elk’s journey as he wakes up in unfamiliar surroundings to find he is doesn’t know anyone.
When reading the origin myth from the Cherokee, it is clear that animals and plants were valued for assisting in creating the earth, receiving special gifts, and sharing the land with humans. Throughout the story, animals help with the development of the world. The Water Beetle made the land from mud, while the Buzzard made the mountains and valleys. The animals even positioned the sun perfectly so every creature could enjoy the light wherever they are. Some plants and animals were even singled out to show the unique qualities they were given.
