When I was visiting my family in Mexico I felt like a foreigner. All my family in America went to Mexico for my great grandma’s 90th birthday party. We were in Monterrey, Mexico which is the northeast part of Mexico. I was about 13 years old. We drove from Arkansas to Monterrey, it took about two days. The major differences were the different sides of the border. Once we got into Mexico, everything was more run down and dirty. There were a lot of beggars’ and poor people all along the streets. When we got to my great grandma’s house it was very colorful and unique. The house had a gate to get to the patio and the patio had plants all over. There was a toilet with plants inside of it. The house was made of cement and most of the activity was
It was a cold winter night in Upstate New York. My mom and dad were enjoying a cup of coffee, my sisters were playing video games, and I was editing a few pictures on my computer. My mom brought up the idea of a vacation. She said” We haven’t been on a vacation for a long time”. We all agreed and were hoping for my dad to also agree. Then my father said with a cheerful voice “Where do you guys want to go for vacation”. Me and my sister Rahma wanted to go to Florida, but, my other sister Selsibila wanted to go to California. Since Florida is closer and most of us agreed on going to Florida my parents said, “Ok then Florida it is” and we all ran to our rooms to pack up our stuff. My father quickly went on his computer and started looking for a rental. After we packed up all our stuff my dad said” Everyone go to bed, so we can wake up fresh in the morning and get the trip started”. So, we all went to bed. I can barely sleep thinking about all the fun were going to have. After about 15 minutes everyone was sound asleep and so was I.
“I can see nothing before me, I wonder where it lies thy path”, I recited while sitting on the plane to a place where everything was so unfamiliar to me, but still I managed to drift asleep.
In my mind’s eye, I can still picture driving from Seagraves, Texas to Orlando, Florida in a brand new Kia that we just got. I remember driving on the overpass above the Mississippi River and how far out of sight it went. We took two long, dreadful days to get to Orlando, but when we got there it was totally worth it.
December 1986 as families prepared for the holidays of gift giving and traveling to see love ones I embarked upon a journey in my life that I never saw coming nor could have ever imagined. I along with my family were in preparations for the holidays and on a Friday evening as we started out for the mall to finish up last-minute shopping. First there was one stop we needed to make and that was at the barbershop. My older brother had gotten a job there running errands, answering phones, cleaning up, and keeping track of customers in order as they came in. Upon learning that the family was going shopping he immediately quit his job on the spot. Trust I am laughing at that too, what a great way to learn about the workforce. However, the owner of

When I was about 7 me and my family went to Mexico to visit family, for Christmas. It was a long 4 hour flight to Dallas, Texas to respite, then another 3 hour flight to the airport. After that we still had to get in a taxi for an hour long from the airport to my grandparents house. On our way to my grandparents house there is a lot of dirt, livestock, stores, and houses. It was about midnight when we left the airport so it was about 1 when we got to my grandparents house. Luckily everyone was still awake so we were not stuck outside. As soon as we walk in my grandma and grandpa give me and my brother a big hug. Then my cousins come up to meet me for the first time.My aunt all ready asleep.
I was 11, we had a direct flight to Acapulco, Mexico. As the airplane descended on to the landing strip at the International Airport General Juan N. Alvarez, I remember seeing the ocean from the window of the airplane. I had been to Mexico a couple of times before, so seeing cluttered streets and compacted buildings was nothing out of the extraordinary for me. However, seeing child labor in the beaches was a real eye-opener. Children my age were selling candy, quesadillas, and many more goods to provide money for their families.
The year was 1999, I was eight years old at the time. Taking trip to mexico to visit my grandparents from my dad's side of the family. This would be the first time I had seen them in a couple of years, I had gone before but i was far too young to recall. The trip was long driving from Wyoming to Mexico is half a day drive. Exhaustingly exciting, would be the best way to describe the trip. Finally I see a Mexican flag followed by a sign saying now entering Mexico. After the long trip the first place we go, is to a little restaurant called Camarones Carmen owned by my grandparents themselves. Where we enjoyed the heat, good food and time with our loved ones.
I stepped out of my dad 's truck, said goodbye, and walked inside the airport with my friends and teacher. Our group walked toward the bag check counter and handed my passport and bag to the lady at the counter. Since I have been afraid of heights all my life, I 've never liked planes."Ugh planes",Just the thought of them gives me shivers down my spine. After what seemed like forever we took off, my heart pounding inside my chest. I ate my candy and played my video games to get my mind off the fear. I looked out the window and started to get queasy so I looked at my game. As we landed I looked around and I saw that everything was beautiful. We entered the Costa Rican airport and to of my friends were offered marijuana by some random dude on
5:30 in the morning, my alarm went off, usually I would complain but today was different I get out of bed, had a bath and double checked the bags I had packed the night before. Spare socks, check. Bandaids, check. Torch, check. Going down the list making sure everything was there. When it came time to leave, a swarm of angry butterflies found a home in my stomach tormenting me with every movement. But it was too late to pull out now, I had to keep going, they were relying on me. There we were, standing in a freshly mown field full of people, all with their own reasons for doing this. As I stood there they hit me again, the angry butterflies intensified by the magnitude of what I was about to take on. I thought to
The worker arrived at foster mom Seidy's house and proceeded to knock on the front door. The worker waited until Amy answer the door and welcome the worker into her home. Voices surround me in a wave of highschoolers scurrying to their sixth period class. Backpacks grazed my skin as I struggled to make my way through the crowd. I finally catch my breath. I start to lightly sweat until a gust of wind blows against my neck giving me the chills. I finally made it to my sixth period english class, the last class of the day.
As the day started, we thought that this activity will not be possible because of the bad weather. But God provided us the opportunity to spread happiness to the students of Tipakan Elementary School. Even though we did not arrive there at the exact time, children still wait for us despite the fact that there is a short period of time for us to do the activity. As we reached the Tipakan Elementary School, we grouped the students into six (6). They were their group mates from the first game until the last game.
