The students from Laurel Ridge were forced to move to SMS due to a boundary change in Sherwood, Oregon. There were unfamiliar students from LRMS and other places. Nearly everyone has witnessed an act of bullying, a prevalent issue among schools around the world. Whether it is due to a troublesome past, a desire to impress others, or another cause, people often express cruelty to others. Someone who chooses not to act when witnessing bullying, shares the blame, as one who does not help the problem becomes part of it. However, those responsible often have trouble owning up to their behavior and admitting to their involvement. In the stories, “Run Sheep Run” and “Sucker”, both narrators, Nancy and Pete, allow pain to be inflicted on someone; Pete directly causes the pain himself. Although both Pete and Nancy are responsible for letting an innocent be hurt, only Pete takes responsibility by acknowledging
“Kids know Nothing about racism. They’re taught that by adults,” say’s Ruby Bridges. Ruby’s life at home, how her education impacted her family, how her education helped, the stress she was going through and how she fixed it, and her life after school. Over the past three decades’ educational leadership has been in search of ways to increase student literacy in urban middle schools in the southeast sections of the District of Columbia. The quest to closing achievement gaps in urban school districts have and will always be an on-going issue for educational leadership (Daly & Chrispells, 2008). Findings from research studies suggest that school leadership accounts for fully one quarter of total school effects on pupils, making it second only to classroom instruction among school-based factors affecting student achievement (Leithwood, Louis, Anderson & Wahlstrom, 2004).
At the same time, kids often do not understand that doing so can cause repercussions because they believe they’re doing what is right. For instance, when Scout’s first grade teacher does not understand why a student will not accept a quarter, Scout goes on to tell her “‘Ah--Miss Caroline...he’s a Cunningham’”(26). She continues to explain that the Cunninghams do not take anything from anybody. In Scout’s mind, she’s helping Miss Caroline learn about the town. She believes that she’s saving the teacher from “subsequent mortification” (28). Scout did not think before standing up to ‘educate’ Miss Caroline and did not realize that maybe it was not necessary. It was her instinct, which happens to be very common in young kids. They often do not understand that in this case, knowledge of townsfolk naturally comes over time. About a day later, another student in the class answered Miss Caroline when she did not grasp why another student was behaving a certain way: ‘He’s one of the Ewells, ma’am’” (36). Both times the students’ do not realize that their teacher not knowing about the person in question is not something that needs fixing. Because of this, the students do not understand why it frustrates her so much. Miss Caroline is new to the area and is not used to it yet.

Haysville High, or the “inferior” school offers an alternative program. Campus is a colossal 5A school with 1,500 students. Haysville High is outshines Campus because of the environment, population, and curriculum.
