English essay- draft Matilda, the protagonist, narrates the story of the novel "Mr. Pip" by Lloyd Jones. As a civil war breaks out between the rebels and redskins in her homeland, Matilda starts to doubt her mother's conventional views on life. This is one of many themes explored in this bildungsroman text, which is set in 1990s bougainville when Australian company Rio Tinto has poisoned its waterways and farmland with operations at its panguna copper mines. A variety of methods and viewpoints are presented by "Mr. Pip," including the strongly Christian beliefs of Matilda's mother, Delores. Mr. Pip explores how small issues like these can frequently tear apart relationships and, in this case, the island. This quotation makes it clear that the islanders may benefit from uncertainty. ‘Mr Pip’, explains to readers that, sameness can frequently be a form of loss, as a result of their ignorance of the outside world. Due to this loss, the islanders never would have anticipated that their future would differ from their past. ‘Pop Eye’, immediately made it clear that white people are treated differently from everyone else when he was first introduced. When the islanders are experiencing alterations from their normal way of life for the first time, the uncertainty may really be a sort of power. In J.B. Priestley's play "An Inspector Calls," Mr Birling is portrayed as a wealthy businessman and a prominent member of the community. He is the head of a family that represents the upper class of Edwardian society, and his views and opinions reflect the prevailing attitudes of his time. Mr Birling's views on gender are typical of the patriarchal and conservative attitudes of his time. He believes that women should be submissive and should not have a say in political or economic matters.
Dixon uses this poetic device to make abstract or unfamiliar ideas concepts more concrete and easier to understand, visualize and remember. This encourages the reader to realize that Indigenous Australians saw people like A. O. Neville, who presided with the policy to remove Aboriginal children from their families, as the devil. This device helps communicate the message by showing how much members of the Stolen Generations have suffered. This also makes the audience understand why this practice has had such a negative and ongoing impact on First Nations

Finny transforms Mr. Prud’homme, an instructor of the summer session at Devon, from serious to stern through indirect and direct characterization shown by syntax and diction using his virtuous, energetic and rambling personality. This happens during Mr. Prud’homme’s meeting with the Gene and Finny one morning to discuss their absence at dinner the night before. Gene describes Mr. Prud’homme insatiably by stating “Mr. Prud’homme stopped at our door. He was broad-shouldered, grave, and wore a gray business suit. He did not have the careless, almost British look of most of the Devon masters, because he was a substitute for the summer.
