As I reflect on the MSW program at Sacramento State University, I am grateful for the experiences I was able to receive during my field work during both years in my MSW program. I am grateful for choosing a program that includes internship as part of the requirement. I truly believe that the field work we have been provided with has given us the opportunity to learn from our mistakes and learn what being a social worker really means. The most challenging thing for me during the MSW program was starting my second year placement. It was my first time working in a medical environment and I did not know what to expect. It took me a few months to acclimate to that environment and feel confident in the work I was doing. Not only was I was expected to do more as an MSW II, I was also pushed out of my comfort zone more often than in any other work setting. I believe that the most helpful part of this program is making sure that each intern has a field supervisor that is accessible if needed. Another helpful part was having at least one other intern in both of my field placements. I found it helpful …show more content…
As students, we have to attend both classes and field placement and it often becomes overwhelming. Receiving support from the program could possibly increase the likelihood of students graduating on time. I also would want the MSW department to become more organized and communicate better in order to facilitate the process for their students. For instance, students were required to change certain classes from their advancement to candidacy form, but we were never sent an email on how to do that. We have to figure it out by asking peers and it was frustrating because we did not know whether there was an actual deadline or who specifically needed to sign those
Week seven, I cannot believe that we only have one more week after this one and then finals. I have learned so much in this class so I am really pleased especially because I know that by passing this class I get closer to reach my goals. Anyways, this week we learned about Swap space, cached management and the different paging policies.
The time spent at Western Governors University (WGU) has been a great opportunity to learn about myself, my goals, and understand the factors that influence my career choice and my success. When I began at WGU four years ago, I did not have any experience in human resource management beyond recruiting, hiring and training for the restaurant industry. In the beginning, I was uncomfortable with the limited knowledge. Yet, as time progressed, my confidence, knowledge and skills increased with each course.
Upon completing this program I plan to work with individuals seeking support, guidance, and personal growth. To fortify this work, I intend to attain clinical licensure. Although social work practices can ameliorate client troubles, I would also like the ability to find possible solutions within diagnoses, further evaluation, and treatment. Utilizing the Advanced Clinical Practice concentration offered in this program will allow me to become familiar with working in clinical settings and apply my coursework knowledge to real work situations. A crucial piece I look for when entering an academic program or workplace is the ability to create real, tangible change.
I would like to be the student speaker because Washtenaw has changed my life in a significant way. I have learned countless life skills from going to school at Washtenaw Community College. By going here, I have gained the confidence needed to move forward in my life. I came to WCC as a high school dropout, with a G.E.D. I dropped out of high school at 9th grade to help provide for my family. My mother was in jail for a drunk driving offense and my father wasn’t around.
I came to Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) after transferring from Gallaudet University. I found that what I was required to take a pre-course before taking the real credit courses at TNCC called English Fundamentals 1. So, I took the class that my counselor and my interpreter, who worked in 25 years at TNCC, recommended me to meet Ms. Dubbé. This semester I have improved my reading and writing skills. I am a better student because I have learned effective strategies and pondered over my future goals.
During my field placements at the Boone County Department of Health and Human Recourses (DHHR) in my foundation level and the Davis Child Shelter currently in my advance level, I believe I have had a great idea of what the social worker profession is, understanding ethics, and working with populations who live in Appalachia. With both of my field placements, I see both sides of social worker, the “demander,” child protective services, and the “supplier,” Davis Child Shelter. Being able to experience both sides of this field, I have also worked with a wide range of different races, ages, sexual orientations, ethnicities, religions, mentally under developed, etc. Looking back at my field placement at the Davis Child Shelter, I have really enjoyed
The very first thing that comes to my mind about this clinical experience was how amazing it was. I had done a six-week women’s health class at Women’s Corrections in Alamosa. Two fellow students also participated in this as a service-learning project. Why it was so amazing was seeing these women grow in the six weeks from just being there to being active participants; they were asking questions and adding their own two cents. Another thing that pops into my head about this is how inspiring these women are.
After this assignment I have learned that Department of Social Services provides a lot of different services to those in need. Just from hearing and reading stories those who work in the field of Social Services aren’t always given a good rep, especially those who work in Child Protective Services. From doing this interview I was pleasantly surprised as to how much work Social Workers do to provide children with a safe and stable environment. There is a lot that goes into what they do every day. I have always known I want to work with children.
Personal Statement Social work by definition means, “any work or service carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those in need of help or welfare”. There are several aspects in my life that motivate me to be a social worker and to perform social work. My uncle motivates me to do social work because he was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a brain disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. His diagnoses enlightened my entire family on how mental disorders can affect a person.
I am confident that the skills that I will gain from completing a social work master’s degree will help me collaborate with people in need and aid sustainable growth in their lives. My first introduction to social work as a profession came while living on a small
The quality MSW program offered at Our Lady of the Lake will enable me to conduct research into, and increase my understanding of the diversity this program entails. I know that my adaptive personality will help me to form lasting connections to further build my professional goals. I believe that I my passion, drive, having an open mind and willingness to learn will grant me success as a Social Worker. I am determined to do all that I can to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work and commit myself to improving the social and personal experiences of family’s, geriatrics, and children. After receiving my degree, I want to find a career in Child Welfare, while also servicing the geriatric
I am applying for a place to study social work because I have always wanted to be able to make a difference to people's lives. With social work I believe I can do this in a caring and supportive way. Many of my life experiences have led me to who I am today. The first thing I remember that caught my attention was how my cousin would always stay with my family. He would be spent weeks with at my house without contract with his parents.
In my W2, the changes I made in my diet was to incorporate more vegetables and fruits. These not only provide fiber, which I was deficient in my WB1 but also different minerals and vitamins for a healthy diet. I also, added whole grains to my consumption of bread and pasta since I usually only ate regular white bread. Two major enriched fiber foods that I added in my perfect 3 days was beans and sweet potato which helped me overcome the deficiency of my WB1. To meet my goal of protein I had to add avocado, egg, cucumber, broccoli, liver, and raisins, all of these are high in protein which made me had more energy throughout my day.
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
Identifications and reflections can highly impact the work of a social worker and client in any setting. As for MQ and I, the stereotype of the resident always thinking that everyone else is always talking about him or planning to do something bad to him has interfered with our work together. Due to this stereotype, trying to get the resident out of the room in order for him to interact with others and attending recreational activities has been hard for me. Although, the resident does not mention that he feels there some sort of oppression going on, but he does inform me on how he feels. He is constantly mentioning how the medical staff is trying to control him and tell him when he and how much medication he should take.
