Italy, as one of the founder country of European Union (EU), had bring a huge contribution toward Europe and global economy. Among the contributions, agriculture sectors from Italy consist a big portion in Europe economy. First of all, Italy has a good landscape that suitable for many kinds of agriculture activities. There are approximately 37% of land in Italy is use as agriculture sector production. In 2001, about 5% of the labour force in Italy was in the agricultural sector. Besides that, the government of Italy and European Union also play a dominant role to support Italy agriculture sector with policy like Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) which associate agriculture sector in Italy with their production, subsidies is …show more content…

In practice, the EU doesn’t have to make any commitment to any single definition of multi functionality but has accepted a very wide definition which each country can adapt to their own priorities. The Italy government and EU policies both played an important role to support the multi functionality agriculture in Italy. First of all, the CAP is the main policy concern about the agriculture sector in Italy. The CAP has been a major driver of the development of the multi functionality agriculture of rural area in Italy with two connected themes which are the provision of public goods from agriculture and the development of agricultural-rooted “non-conventional” agricultural activities (Davide Viaggi 2011). In addition, EU also provide some policies and program to support the multifunctional agriculture, for example, the policies under the national policies like Evaluating Multifunctional Agriculture Policies which is use for the measurement and evaluate different rural growth policies. The TOP-MARD project had developed a list of outcome pointers to define the effects of different policies on the sustainability of a region. In the European context, especially the more developed country like Italy, the essential energy-saving structures of multifunctional agriculture has been concern. A study says that a rise of usage of manure, which is a usual part of traditional, small-scale farming performs, could have a considerable beneficial effect in carbon sequestration equivalent to ca. 25% of the total carbon emissions of the United States (GRAIN 2009). Energy savings and carbon sequestration will give a larger implication in short term and long term future for the ecosystem in Italy which directly related to the social and environment for Italy
