Music Benefits
There are very few activities that utilize the entire brain, and music is one of them. Music can bring people to tears or it can make people super excited. Although music is extremely good for young brains, not all kids take the opportunity. Music pushes creativity for kids that they would not receive on a regular basis. Kids should need to take two years of music class because music helps with academics, behavior, and mood.
Kids should need to take two years of music because music helps academics. Music education has been proved to help kids with speech and comprehension, “For example, kids who learned how to play a musical instrument showed stronger language skill then students who took music appreciation classes” (Dovey 1). Playing and learning an instrument allows you to see things differently because reading music, in a way is like learning another language, so if interpreting music is easy, reading and speaking should be easier too. Science has shown that playing an instrument helps kids distinguish different sounds that kids would not normally hear (Locker 1). Hearing different sounds helps kids develop neurophysiological distinction between certain sounds. Neurophysiological distinction can help kids in literacy because consonants and vowels will become clearer due to using different parts of your mouth to play the instrument, and once consonants and vowels become clearer the brain can make more sense of the words you are speaking and reading
