Despite my stereotypical trumpet ego telling me that no other instrument can compare to the trumpet, there is another instrument that I find intriguing: the synthesizer. I have always been interested in the synthesizer as both an instrument and a way of visualizing the physics of sound. Music is a unique subject that can be approached from an artistic, scientific, or even purely mathematical point of view, and synthesis allows the exploration of all of these approaches.

Synthesizers use various techniques to generate sound, but each technique has the same goal: to create music by utilizing the physics of sound. Synthesis is an interesting topic because it is one where science and artistic expression converge.
