Every year Austin Peay State University decides to produce two musicals and two straight plays for their theatre season. This year one of the musicals selected was Anything Goes by Cole Porter. Anything Goes concentrates on the story of Hope Harcourt and her family trying to sail from New York to England. With the production being a musical a lot more work was put towards additional skills like voice techniques and choreography, rather than in a straight play where the task is to just memorize your lines and create a connection with your character. The overall performance is based on how well the extra work such as, voice techniques and choreography complement the acting and set pieces.

Into the Woods is a broadway musical that was first performed on December 4, 1986 with music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim. I 've performed in dozens of musicals, but this one is by far my favorite. The story line intertwines fairytales, and shows how they helped and fought each other in gruesome conditions. The main family in this show is the baker and his wife who must locate items from different fairytales in order to lift a curse placed on them by a witch. According to Daniel Levitin, a cognitive psychologist and neurologist, humans can recognize songs in any pitch (“Interview”). This means if “Mary Had a Little Lamb” is played with a different set of notes; humans would still recognize the song. As a teenager, I see that my peers are completely diverse when it comes to a music style. Everyone has their own mix of artists and songs that may or may not be completely similar. I sat on the edge of a pool table as I watched my best friend 's attempt of having an open DJ station at her party. She wanted everyone to be able to listen to what they wanted. The idea was not bad and neither were her intentions. With her ability to be friends with people in different friend groups, she should have thought about this being a problem. I heard a wide variety of music from rap, death metal, and many boy bands. As the night went on there were fights, arguments and a decrease in guests. Looking around the room it came to my attention that all of these people do like music; not one of them suggested that it should be an awkward silence. Roger’s and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is arguably one of the most well known films that many can admit to watching at least once in their lifetime. People all around the world have found this musical inspiring, as it documents growth and hope amidst the horrors of World War II. It is extremely irritating when people do not recognize all the sports that are out there. Sure, there are a lot of them but if we can consider cheerleading a sport then I think that we can call marching band a sport. People do not understand why I am so easily annoyed when they diss this great sport.
