According to Rachel (2012) “accountability is at the heart of nursing, weaving its way through nursing practice in all settings and at all levels” (para. 1). Accountability builds the individual and organizational credibility by clearly setting the expectations, goals, and commitments. As a nurse, I am committed to growing and advance in my knowledge and skills, adhere to the nursing standards and ethics, involve in professional associations, and attain any certifications needed for my practice. In personal growth and development area, I would rate myself in between the competent and expert level, since I am on track in implementing my action plans to advance my education, keep up with continued education credits required, have a plan for my
My “aha” moment was also when we started the research paper. I feel like the assignment made us as nurse to fine tune our critical thinking skills and expand our thoughts. This is exactly the kind of assignments we need to help us grow from RN’s to BSN’s. It was also difficult for me at first also, but once I started it flowed well. The important concept is what we are going to bring to our careers in the future.
Thank you for sharing your thought and experience. Delegation helps to release the burdens and free the hands from RN who then can focus more on the tasks that require advance skills. Of course, it also help to solve the problem of nursing shortage, provide flexibility in management and save the healthcare operational cost. Delegation relay on delegators’ knowledge, skills, judgement, ethics, personalities, communication styles and co-operation between delegators and delegates (Cipriano, 2010). With the influence of all these variables, delegation is not a simple skill or task.
Self-Regulation and the New Registered Nurse Introduction The nursing profession has been self-regulating in Ontario since 1963. Self-regulation is a privilege granted to professions that have shown they can put the interest of the public ahead of their own professional interests. It recognizes that Ontario’s nurses have the knowledge and expertise to regulate themselves as individual practitioners and to regulate their profession through the college (“What is CNO?”, 2018). Proactive self-regulation involves establishing learning goals, strategies to address goals, monitor progress of goals, creation of environments conducive to learning, and maintenance of self-efficacy (Zimmerman & Schunk, 2011).
When you are charge nurse/team leader, making assignments is pure delegation. For example, I worked with Nurse M. and she was amazing when it came to taking care of patients who were confused, cantankerous, or agitated. She always seemed to know the right thing to say, in the right tone, and she had a way of establishing mutual goals and expectations. Most of the time, at the end of her shift, the patient would be calmer, relaxed and more willing to work with the nurses.
Nursing is a most trusted and gratifying profession. As a nurse educator, I will express my passion for teaching by incorporating features such as clinical assessments, practical application of theory, evaluation, and role modeling into advanced nursing practice, from previous experiences and current experience and clinical practicum to find success and gratification in students chosen profession as well empowering leaners to develop their own strengths, beliefs, and personal attributes to become a good professional. Personally, I do have a positive attitude towards the personal and professional growth, and value ongoing learning and will stive to instill the same into my students learnig journey .. My objective as a Nurse Educator
Everyone that has worked in the medical field has experienced travelers or contract staff at least once. And if you haven’t noticed hostility comes to mind when one arrives to the floor. Gosh, the agony of seeing a traveler! Why would anyone turn away staff you must say to yourself? Someone in charge was slacking in their duties.
On 2/05/17, I was getting medication for another patient when Kofi Obeng, came up to me with the new admission vital signs. He stated, he could not find the new admission that came in because it was not in the system. So I asked him to tell the nursing clerk to assist him to accept the client in the system. When he went to ask her. She responded to him that anyone can do it and she is not doing it.
I agree with you Walter. Nursing is a teamwork. In an acute hospital setting, an RN is assigned a set of patient to deliver care that means RN has full responsibility about these patients. In this case, RN who is the primary care nurse can complete her task by herself or delegate some of the task to the nursing assistant according to their scope of practice. The abilities to delegate, and supervise other healthcare workers is not an easy job.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
According to my preceptor last semester I demonstrates a sound understanding of self-care, self-reflection and work life balance. I also have an “understanding of the components of the nurse patient relationship, by maintaining an open and professional relationship with the patients.” I am also “demonstrated self-direction and initiative” (B. Mahy, personal communication, DATE). Rena Hania, my current preceptor indicates that my strengths include “Maturity, professionalism and desire for autonomy. Asks appropriate questions, and have a gift for connecting with my patients” (R. Hania, personal communication,
The theoretical for a defined construct of moral integrity included three components as follows: Discernment: refer to ability to think about and weights what is morally right from morally wrong. This requires moral reflectiveness on the meaning of good and bad as well as how that meaning applies to self and others. Consistent act: refer to ability to continue doing on those convictions that reliably across time and situation.
The purpose of this assignment is to explore the principles of empowerment in nursing practice. The essay will define what health promotion is and how it is important to empowerment and how they both link. I will also be discussing my artefact and what health promotion models have been researched and used throughout my essay and in the making of my artefact and the reasoning behind the decisions. The main topic of this essay will be focusing on how I can empower someone with a learning disability to communicate using a communication board to express their wishes and needs to the medial staff.
Leadership within the healthcare field is necessary to increase skills, organization, understanding, and control within the workplace (Huber, 2014). The leadership role tends to fall into the hands of one who is trustworthy, knowledgeable, motivating, committed, and adequately communicates to the team (Huber, 2014). With each leader comes strengths and weakness, hence, the reason why self-assessment and reflection on leadership skills are necessary. Over the course of this essay I will perform a variety of self-assessment and reflection tests in order to identify my strengths and weaknesses as a current and future nurse leader. Results
Accountability refers to, someone that, is taking responsibility for their own actions. More so, in our text, refers to nursing accountability is a part of every nurse responsibilities during their shift and is linked to “The moral principles if fidelity and respect for the dignity, worth and self-determination of patients” (Burkhardt, 2014, p. 139). The American Nurses Associations Standards of Nursing Practice is one of example of accountability. These standards help utilize the nursing process and make all nurses accountable for assure that, each step of the nursing process has taken place in the delivery of nursing care to all patients. Another example for accountability is of course the American Nurses Association with the Code of Ethics
In healthcare practices reflection has been described as the process of reviewing, analyzing and evaluating one’s own experiences, depict upon theoretical concepts or previous learning to enhance future action (Reid, 1993). A proficient reflective nurse continuously reflects on experience and is able to reflect in action, constant learning from experience to benefit the future actions (Schon, 1983). Today I am also reflecting on one of my experience which is confronted during my Senior Elective Course rotation. I still remember that day it was Tuesday morning around 11:00am I was in HN office helping Liza (CNI) to finalize the names of staff members who have completed successfully ACLS.
