A Letter to My Best Friend One day, you will walk me down the aisle to another man. I will love that man how you taught me to be loved. I want you to know that you will always be the most important man in my life that I will ever love. You showed me that love is not something you express in big things. Rather, it’s leaving a note or getting a small gift will leave a bigger impact. You were the trust worthy father-figure that any girl would dream to have and I was lucky enough to be blessed with the best one. I for one, do not consider myself a strong person. Despite my self perception, you continued to remind me that I could do anything even when I never thought it was possible. Everything I do is for you. You understood me when no one else did and picked me up everytime I fell down. It’s because of you that I know how to ride a bike, how to work for what I want in life, …show more content…
When you corrected me I understood that you were teaching me how to better myself as a person. When mom and I would fight, you always played the barrier in between. Mom expected you to take her side, but when you would slip into my room to come talk to me or see if I was okay, I learned that you can’t always be the good cop. Eventually I realized that you couldn't give me everything I wanted and I’m sorry for the all the begging I did as a child. Despite the times you told me no, I knew you were still going to be the man who I could always take refuge in.
There are so many things that I could thank you for, but I will only list a few. It’s because of you that today I can say that I am a strong independent young woman. Thank you for working hard to provide for our family and ensuring that we are all happy. Thank you for giving me advice in a situation that we both knew I could not handle by myself. But, most of all Dad, thank you for being you. I will continue to carry the lessons you have taught through the rest of my
I 'm so proud to be your mother and so proud of the woman you 've become. Thanks for bringing Marc into our family, and Charlotte and Aidan into the world. The bond between us became quite stronger than ever.

Who knew that something so beautiful could be so difficult? Adoption led me to a season of surrender, hurting, and healing, but most importantly, a place of grace and perception. Soon after my fourteenth birthday, my family invited a young boy who had been struggling in his original, adopted home to come live with us. Adopted from Ethiopia at the age of 10, Elias arrived in Texas, only to be sent to my family in Kentucky one year later.
So many times I have replayed the events of that day in my mind. I am sorry; sorry for what my mother said and for what my father and my neighbors did not. You were an honest man trying to make an honest living; I am sure of it. When my mother blamed you for stealing the carpet and everyone remained silent I could not keep quiet. The confusion I felt was overwhelming.

This is one of the proudest moments in my life. It’s a lesson that I’ll never forget. Being taught how to ride a bike for the first time was exciting.
