In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, Sam came home from Yale wearing an army uniform to a tavern in Reding. Father and Sam didn 't get along. Most of their arguments were usually about Sam enlisting with the Patriots in war and how dangerous it would be. Even though Father told Sam not to go to war, Sam didn 't listen and bad things ended up happening. It turned out to be that Sam just came back home to steal Fathers Brown Bess.
The book My Brother Sam is Dead was a book about about named Tim. He lived during the time of the Revaloutionary War. The book was very accurate towards actual events that happened during the war. When the war started Tim’s brother Sam joins the Patriots to fight. His family are loyalist and his father disapproves of him joining the rebels.
War is a series of sacrifices used to resolve an international dispute. Choosing a side will show your beliefs and principals. Injustice causes war and war induces violence and destruction of nations. Freedom costs many lives, so a better future is ensured for the next generations. Authors James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier accurately portray war as an expectation and reality through the novel My Brother Sam is Dead.
It’s ironic that he was killed even though he showed loyalty throughout the whole adventure. Since Sam was on the Patriot side, he was threatening the splitting of his family. He dedicated so much of his life to the Patriots, that he even went against his father’s wish, which was seen as a sin. Sam deserved more than he had originally
Some people still wonder if war can be justified by its principles or cause. It can be argued that war can be justified due to the principles of freedom and justice that soldiers are willing to die for. However, many argue against this saying that war should be avoided at all costs due to collateral damage and the massive loss of innocent life. In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, Tim faces the biggest dilemma of his life when he has to decide whether to side with his brother who believes in the principles of war or his father who believes war should be avoided at all costs. When the novel comes to a conclusion, Tim decides that he is neutral and does not agree to either argument due to the irony contained within the deaths of
The majority of people during the American Revolution fought for liberty without realizing the actual cost and brutal reality of war. In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead, the Meeker family consisting of a Father name Life, a Mother named Susannah, a rebellious teen named Sam, and a conflicted teen named Tim, journey through the life of colonists owning a tavern during the Revolutionary War. Sam departs from his family to fight alongside the Patriots going against his Father, a Tory. War brings a lot of terrible things, but some examples are families splitting, clash of generation, and an overall theme of principle vs reality. The soldiers who fought in the war thought they were fighting for liberty, when really they caused havoc and awfulness.
Sam has decided to become a soldier in the Continental Army. This means he 's going to join the Patriots to fight for the American Colonies to be free from England. Mr. Meeker has two reasons for hating this idea:
The Patriot’s needed to be kept in line, and executing Sam as an example seemed like the best idea to the general. Tim sees his brother, who gave up his everything to enlist, be killed by the soldiers he had fought alongside for three years. The allegation against Sam saying that he stole his own cattle made no sense to Tim, but it showed him that war is not fair. Tim saw how ruthless war could make men, causing them to be power hungry and kill to keep their ego strong. The Patriots were no exception to war’s dominant power, and after Sam’s death, Tim leaned towards
War is one of the most controversial and fascinating aspects of human life, which includes sacrifice, argument, and worst of all human death. The argument of war is whether or not the sacrifice of human life is necessary or not. The authors of My Brother Sam Is Dead are totally against war; they are neutral and they give Tim the same idea as them in the novel. They even show the irony and cruelty of war in the book by the punishing and ironic deaths of Ned, Sam, and Life. This novel is based in Redding, Conneticut during the time of the Revolutionary War.
There were lots of principles vs reality so for instance, how Mr. Meeker gets taken by Rebels who thought he was delivering beef to the British. Even though he was a Torie, Life died in a British prison ship. “In June of that year, 1777, we found out that Father was dead” (Collier and Collier.) The second reason is when Sam dies. That was way obvious but the way he died was very different.
Then the clash of generations like adults and teens students and adults then children and parents.like adults and sam how the adults want to stay there in peaceIn My Brother Sam Is Dead although both sides of war are shown author 's collier and collier ultimately argue that war is unfair and hard. Like In the war it affected families and tore them apart.they also clash with generations like with adults and tennagers.then principals vs reallity principals as in sam fighting for freedom and reallity like all the horrible deaths.this is the kind of stuff that hapened in My Brother Sam Is Dead whille the revoloutionary war. In My Brother Sam Is Dead there is a lot of conflict in families during the war which leads into divided families. In the book
A War Within War is inevitable, war is not peaceful nor accepted by many. War is the act portrayed by many men and women who believe they’re making a difference, that one less life in the world is nothing more than the act of taking it. Wars come and go claiming they’re making a difference in a positive way liberating a certain territory, whilst destroying it. War is the true equalizer between life and death, fairness and irony. The novel “My Brother Sam is Dead” symbolizes many of these traits.
