Cultural Experience For my cross-cultural experience I decided to have lunch at an ethnic restaurant. I went to Gourmet India Restaurant in Downtown San Diego. I chose this restaurant because it was rated four out of five stars online with 593 reviews, and the pictures showed they had traditional seating on the floor. When I arrived it was a beautifully colored with traditional seating which, when I told my mother and boyfriend that is where we would be sitting, the both looked at me and asked if I was serious. The staff was very kind and courteous.

The walls were red and orange with paisley patterns painted on the wall. On the wall above us was a large painting of a topless purple lady with six arms and a necklace made of skulls to cover part of her chest, which my boyfriend's 9 year old daughter had a lot of questions about. I learned that the lady in the painting is supposed to be Kali, a Hindu goddess. There was another picture across the room on a person with blue skin sticking their tongue out which I learned was another picture of Kali. The table had a glass top that was covering a beautiful photo collage of Indian people dressed in traditional indian clothing, photos of the Taj Mahal, and also pictures of elephants and camels decorated in bright beautiful …show more content…
After reading more about the culture I learned why the people in the art had colored skin. The blue and purple skin represent the Hindu goddess. The restaurant did a great job I love having authentic meals to choose from that has the authentic Indian spices that I was expecting. They had a lot of items on the menu that I had never heard of that I hope to go back and try.
What was the educational value in participating in this
Celebrating holidays from both countries, each with their own special traditions, I was able to become more appreciative of where my roots lie. From the U.S. national anthem, to the beautiful folklorico dances of Mexico, I am fascinated with the blended culture I
AMS 251 Paper #2: Advise for the Curation of Smithsonian NMAAHC In order to understand the story of America’s history one must attempt to comprehend the complexity of the history and culture of African Americans, a people who arguably should be given the credit for the profound success America has achieved since its inception in 1776. It is impossible to faultlessly encompass an entire race’s culture and history into a single, physical structure, let alone one as rich as African American’s, but it is important to transform the NMAAHC into a vessel that provides a bridge between the masses and the unfiltered history of African Americans. In order to shape the museum’s role, it is important that the museum act as an introspective tool for all

Just by the name of the work, meaning money gained in a dishonest way, I knew it would have a dark vibe. As I walked in, the room felt a bit creepy. It was the same set up as the Peacock Room, but everything was a bit darker and more destroyed. I could tell that this was an exaggeration of the fight between art and money, just like Leyland and Whistler. The shelves were all splintered, broken, and coming apart, dripping with gold paint.
My brother has always mentioned how fun the Fiesta De San Marcos is in Aguascalientes, Mexico. One year I decided to take a trip with him. As we arrived I started observing the differences in culture and started experiencing their way of living. I learned how they have siesta time and close shop at noon to have lunch with their families and in the night the Spanish inspired city lights up with all the boots of Fiesta. At first, this was a shock to me since I am used to going anywhere at any time for things needed, but by observation and partition knowledge I learned how to work around those little obstacles and got to enjoy my trip.
Thanksgiving with an American Family One of my college friends who is an American invited me to the Thanksgiving dinner with her family. I had never been to a Thanksgiving dinner before and so I was pretty excited for this party. The first thing I noticed as soon as I reached her home was the sweet smell of the dinner being cooked. My friend opened the door for me and introduced me to her family.
But since I was just a little kid, I had no other choice but to face my fears. Ever since that trip I have broadened my horizons and became less ignorant towards my family’s culture. The most popular stereotype I was familiar with is Hispanic people love spicy food. I was never a big fan of spicy food.
My observation took a place in an old family house in a village near city Zenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was taken between 14:00 and 15:00 during family gathering for a muslim holiday called Eid. I sat in the corner of a dining room filled with around twenty people, all members of one big family. The family members were in a small room of an old traditional house.
ANTH150 Mini Essay 2: Fieldwork Observation Word Count: 734 I conducted my ethnographic observations over the course of a few days. During my fieldwork observation, I recorded observations of customer behaviour, the general layout of the restaurant, culture significance, and décor. Siam Corner is located in Rouse Hill on Resolution Place. While entering, you can immediately feel the intimate environment of the restaurant and sense the sudden shift from the streets of Sydney to a Thai restaurant. It is viewed as an upscale restaurant with excellent service.
Throughout my experiences in this course so far, I have had many opportunities to reflect on my own past and have begun to better understand my own cultural identity. It has been much more difficult to wrap my head around than I would have predicted it to be because so many things play into the construction of an identity that it can be hard to look at all of those separate pieces together. My cultural identity, like all others, is more complicated than it first appears. I identify as a white person, a woman, an American, a gay person, and a feminist, just to name a few. While all of these labels carry with them stereotypes and expectations, they also interplay with the cultural influences I was subject to throughout my childhood.
The Oakland Museum of California is a remarkable place to experience art in a museum for the first. It is a small museum but, it has so much to offer. It includes an Art gallery, History gallery and a Natural Science gallery. Walking up to the entrance of the museum, I noticed the museum is small but it had a sense of space surrounding it. The exterior had little decorations and the building has a simple but very geometric shape.

On Saturday March 24th I went to the Thien Hau Temple in Chinatown. I went to the temple with my friend Bianca and I met up with Tyler in our class. When we were first given the assignment I knew I wanted to visit a Buddhist temple because I know they have beautiful architecture as I’ve passed by a few in Los Angeles. I don’t know a lot about Buddhism except for the few things I learned about it in middle school. I wanted to visit the Hsi Lai temple in Hacienda Heights, but I couldn’t due to time restraints.
