My Experience At The University Of Colleges Against Cancer

In the words of the late broadcaster Donald McGannon, “Leadership is action, not position.” Leadership is the unification of a group of ordinary peoples to complete extraordinary accomplishments. A leader is not necessarily the person in front of the line, it is the person that stands alongside everyone and helps rise the group to their maximum potential. Leadership cannot be taught, it is learned. A person is not elected a leader, people with strong leadership skills are elected. What makes a leader is the skills they possess, skills that are earned through experiences and enhanced over time. Though it didn’t remain a club, the mentorship portion developed was taken over by a professional organization. I was also given the opportunity to serve on our Public Safety Committee. In this capacity, I learned about problems on our campus and helped enact changes that positively impact the campus welfare. Colleges Against Cancer has given me the ability to plan events to support cancer research and its survivors, serving as the Relay For Life co-chair. I have the honor of organizing events and fundraising initiatives on our campus, as well as work with a large group of people to make these successful. As a Resident Assistant (RA) it is my job to be a leader the in resident halls. I used leadership skills daily, from planning programs to resolving conflicts. This position gives me invaluable tool to face adverse situations, knowledge on how to conquer challenges, and compassion to serve a diverse group of residences. As a member of various professional organizations on campus, I am able to use my leadership skills in the community at various health fairs and programs to work with people to enhance their well-being. On campus, I am currently a member of the SSHP Induction Ceremony committee member and APhA-ASP OTC Literacy, as well an APhA-ASP Buddy Program
