Leadership is the ability to guide others without force into a direction or decision that leaves them still feeling empowered and accomplished. I found this ability within myself at a very young age. Growing up I was constantly surrounded by leaders, people who had no fear in taking the first step in the right direction. My mother was a leader when she got diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and beat it a year later. My Father was a leader when he started his own successful marketing business in the small town of Columbia. So, being surrounded by leading figures, as I got older I found an urge to do a leader-like act on my own. That is when my grandmother and I had the great idea to raise money for my Brothers school, The Hope Institute in Springfield, …show more content…
The first thing I did was call my grandma, she was always willing to help me with anything and everything that I needed so she was completely on board with this idea to help me. We brainstormed for days on end and then finally came up with our so called ‘Master Plan’. Every night at 9 or 10 we would go to houses around the community and Flamingo their yard. As odd as that might sound, it's not harmful. It's the idea that you put plastic flamingos all over people's yard as fun-loving joke, in order to get their attention about a cause. In the middle of the pack of flamingos we out some fake flowers in the ground and attached a note stating that we were attempting to raise money for my brothers school, including all the details about it. We also explained that we would come back the next morning to pick up the flamingos and that if they would like to donate then, it would be greatly appreciated. Apparently, the community loved the idea because we started to see posts about it on social media, and there was talk about it around the town. I clearly remember the feeling of absolute leadership when my grandma and I finally counted out all the money and found that we had made 3,600 dollars for the school. The next day I called The Hope Institute to share my news, and the outcome was one that I never would've expected. They were so astonished that we had raised the money, that the Principal of the school decided to match my donation
When I was a freshman, I went to was an event called Winter Rage at Clackamas High School. It was a day where the school collected donations of food, clothes, toys, and basic items for families in need around the community. The day of the event required hours of set-up and packaging. When families arrived, it was very heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces as they received enough food and warm clothes for the winter season. I was in charge of handing out toys and Christmas gifts to children and families.
In addition to the fair, our facility also provides utilization of the grounds for community functions on a year round basis. Some examples are the annual Fireworks Show, Run for the Wall, food drive during the fair (3,500 pounds of can goods collected), use of the parking lot for school bus driver training, use of the kitchen for our local 4-H groups to hold their annual BBQ fundraisers, Blue Grass Festival, FFA Awards Dinner, wedding receptions, the Palo Verde High School Homecoming dinner and the High School Prom. In the past six years the fair management has worked hard to raise money by applying for grants and establishing a nonprofit 501 (C)(3) foundation.
The red cross hepl people in a house that was on fire and if they didn’t a lot of people would of died. Kids from boston were dying from diseases and if you send money to the hospital or to the kid who you want to help. Someone in the New York pool went to the deep end and almost drowned but my cousin saved him. One of my friends didn’t have money in her acount to buy a lunch so I gave her some of my food because she was really hungry.
With the help of my fellow classmates, I conducted weekly evening school for the children living on the streets, or belonging to low socio-economics backgrounds. I am aware that Delta Sigma Pi is also highly active in giving back to the community, be it tirelessly dancing for 36 hours to raise awareness and funds for kids at the Riley Hospital or organizing an annual gala to raise funds for the American Cancer Research Society. My passion for giving back to the community could be beneficial in increasing the impact of Delta Sigma Pi’s philanthropic endeavors.
Often times fundraising starts out strong in the fall, but then declines in the spring. To prevent this, I hope to revitalize fundraising in the spring by having incentives for donating. For example, if you raise $50, you can receive a hand written letter from your state’s Governor. These incentives will spark fundraising in the spring. Through new fundraising efforts, I know that we can surpass previous fundraising records and have the most successful year
The Toys for Tots fundraiser is a pretty cool organization, they get together and parents that aren 't as well off as others come in and sign their
I wrote a letter to have the principal read at school so I could spread the word and my mom and family posted that I was looking for donations on Facebook, after that I had messages and people calling me, asking when we could meet so they could give some donations. A little bit of donations, started turning into a lot, I filled
In 2016, I went to the National Fall Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I also have participated in the Splash Against Cancer event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. All of these experiences have taught me that it is important to help
Unfortunately, I didn’t think there was anything impactful I could do to help at a young age. Until I found a committee organizing a mini-THON to help support, and raise money for the Four Diamonds Foundation that assist children and families that are impacted by cancer. Immediately, after learning about the Four Diamonds Foundation I knew that I wanted to be involved, and continue the outstanding work at the University that started the largest
In conjunction with offering reward incentives, I prepared and distributed a donation request letter to local organizations. My goal is to get donations that can support monthly classroom popcorn parties, for the top two classes each month with the highest attendance percentage. Additionally, each month students can earn raffle tickets based on having low tardiness. I have also requested donations
I have always been involved with charity organizations, but this time I was directly involved with not only creating events and raising money, but also seeing first hand the lives I was saving. For the first time something meaningful reached out and grabbed me. My new found responsibility and leadership skills that I acquired during my experiences from Chain Reaction connected me to a cause that put me in the position to make a change and save lives. I was revolutionized as a person. From then on, I began to become a leader in every aspect of my life, and learned to overcome the adversities of outside opinions.
I was the vice president of the student government my freshman year in Antioch High School. I ran for vice president, because I wanted to become knowledgeable and a risk-taker. My school hosted a Red Cross blood drive, the Angel Tree Program by the Salvation Army, and Pasta for Pennies by Olive Garden. I was responsible for promoting these events to individuals and organizations within our school. The problem was that I did not perceive myself as an extroverted individual capable of communicating and informing individuals effectively about the various events.
I felt sympathize with the homeless children so I decided to donate my money and toys to them. Because I thought my money can help them be educated. Maybe the organization didn 't have equipment enough so they could not teach the children. Moreover Life of the children was better.
My passion for philanthropy began long before I could even pronounce the word. I was an innately empathetic child who cared deeply for the world around her. To name but one example, I recall saving up coins in my piggy bank to sponsor a child in Tanzania through the organization, World Vision that I learned about through a particularly moving church service, during which I was shown images of children my own age living in complete impoverishment. World Vision, a nonprofit organization, works toward its mission of lifting the world out of poverty specifically by aiding children. The stories of poverty I was exposed to instilled a conviction deep within me to become involved in making a difference.
In my sophomore and junior year, LIA and I picked a date around the end of the school year and had a bus drop us off at the canal, we walked back to school while picking up tons of trash in our neighborhood. In addition, in December, we created a project called “Hats for
